Steering wheel sanding sound ?

Anyone had this before ??

 

Noticed the steering wheel recently have developed a sanding sound when I turn my steering wheel left and right.

It's rubbing on the steering column cowling... Otherwise there could be something sinister going on!

Take the wheel off , get a dremel with a polishing bit on and buff it with brasso , then give it a good polish with metal polish then cover it in vaseline and hey presto you have another 20 years before you have to do it again lol , i guarentee that wil work if not il eat my hat

Ohh forgot also polish the little brass connector that touches the ring , you will see it wen the wheels off

I just rubbed a credit card in the gap and made it go away. Can sometimes be the horn thing

It'll be a bit of grit on the indicator cancel mech. As mentioned, take the wheel off and wipe round the ring and all will be well again!

Just sorted mine recently. Had the same sandy noise you described. It turned out to the little brass arm that makes constant electrical contact with the wheel. You will know what I mean when you remove the wheel. The brass arm gets worn and developes sharp ragged edges which make the sandy scrapping noises as you turn the steering wheel. Simply file it smooth again and all will be well.

Yeb...it was the little brass arm. Gave that a clean with contact cleaner and noise was gone. Thanks all.
