Food for thought???!!!...

Recommended Posts

Just had a conversation with a local VW / Audi engine specialist re. having my VR6 head reconditioned, & he basically said to me it was a waste of time messing with the head as (in his experience), it's always worn rings on VR6's, & heads are ok! & he didn't even want to consider a price for re-ringing! Needless to say I'll be trying other places.

Do you reckon he's talking bollllllox?! I think he was just trying to get rid of me really.

Cheers,

Robbo

He's not talking bollards unfortunately. Some VRs do tend to lunch their rings or ovalise the bores rather quickly. It's always 1 and 6 that go first.

Get Graham at Stealth to build you a 3.0 block with JE 11:1 pistons

I think Vince charges £2300 for a whole engine fitted, of standard specification. I think the JE pistons are about £450 imported.

VAG want £2500 just for a short block. You pays your money........

.. but VAG will sell you a whole 2.9 ABV engine (probably a bored out 2.8) for about £3700. This is clearly inclusive of a new/recond top end and comes with 2 year warranty.

No the ABV engines from VAG are just that, not bored out AAA engines.

ABV pistons and rings are still available seperately if you'd rather rework an AAA block.
