krishen 2 Posted July 7, 2013 (edited) My renewal has come through and its only £10 cheaper than last year (£832). I did a confussed.com quote and they came back around the same price. I've just checked go compare and they have come up with better quotes (cheapest £630). Thing is some of the companies quoting are on both websites but more expensive on confussed.com. How does that work? Also have other people that have claimed in the past experienced a big hike in insurance or was i just unlucky? Surely having an accident doesn't mean your more risky than someone who hasn't, does it? Edited July 7, 2013 by krishen
Critical_Mass 10 Posted July 8, 2013 Err yeah.. if you've had an accident it will go against you.. even if its a non-fault claim, which is ridiculous.
Portent 0 Posted July 8, 2013 Statistically people who have had one claim are likely to have another, regardless of whether they were at fault. The insurance companies quotes are driven by statitics. So having someone crash into you means your premium will likely rise. I guess it's because some people drive and park more defensively than others, althogh innevitibly some claims simply can't be avoided.
Critical_Mass 10 Posted July 8, 2013 Yeah i understand how they've come to that conclusion, doesnt mean i agree with it. I got blind sided by a car coming out of a T junction, as i passed, he pulled out and swiped the side of my car. Still went against me.. how can i be responsible for other peoples actions, i cant control peoples decisions
P3rks 11 Posted July 8, 2013 My renewal went from £450 a year to £4000+ after I made a claim. In fact, they refused to give me the official price because they said it was too embarrassing. Got to love insurance companies.
perky15 0 Posted July 8, 2013 I had a quote on my storm im 23 with no no claims bonus they quoted me £740 on confused so I bought the car and found it had a cat1 alarm and a tracker so I put that on and the insurance hiked to 950 :-( I then removed it and refreshed the insurance quote and it still went too 830 went on internet setting deleted browsing history and cookies and refreshed quote back to 740 so try deleting cookies websites like confused and many holiday websites use cookies and if you view the page more than once the price changes
krishen 2 Posted July 8, 2013 Well i managed to get it for £700 with prestigekeepmoving. Spoke to my current insurer and when i told them the quote i got from prestige they tried to match it. They then told me that last year there was a "weighting" on my premium (due to claim). Miraculously they were able to remove the so called weighting to try and match the price prestige offered and came back with a quote of £720. So not as bad as i initially thought BUT i really do hope the government starts to regulate the insurance industry as currently it seems they can do what they like. seanl82 23 Posted July 9, 2013 Specialist companies out there should beat confused..... I chose classic line this time. Very good they are too This. I was getting quotes around the £640 mark from comparison sites. Went to Classic Line and got it for £215 with absolutely every extra I'd have to pay more for! Only thing with this is that it's a true classic insurance policy so limited mileage is a must. I think the max they go is 5k. As mine is a weekend toy anyway, I chose a 4k max policy as I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna get close to that, and at the price it would be stupid to try and squeeze a bit more from it. happyeaster 10 Posted July 9, 2013 i insured my car when i was 22 for about 900 which i thought was a bit steep but now looking at other peoples quotes i think i got lucky. its only a 1.8 16v but if i get a vr6 it gets cheaper
itsmeagain 0 Posted July 9, 2013 Why don't you take out a classic car policy, there only about 200quid

Any excuse to hike up a premium - even when it's not your fault. I'm 57 years old, i drive a car not worth 2.5K, i've held a full licence since 1972 and i have maximum NCB. I should be paying NOWT for insurance!! Sadly, as Portent says, these companies are driven by statistics. I pref to call it being driven by b*ll**ks. :)
