Storm grey vr6

Recommended Posts

Just picked up a genuine storm grey vr6 with heated cream leather, my 5th! after selling my green vr6.

I let the green one go purely because I couldn't warm to the colour, (it was a steal of a buy) and the windscreen leaked like a sieve which would of been a massive job.

Anyhow I've bought Adam_sky's vr6 which was his mothers car since 2006 and apart from the rear drivers arch which needs sorting its mechanically pretty good and totally standard! My old vr6 is just round the corner and the chap wants to revert the car to standard so I may put the koni's on and also a Bmc air filter for the time being.

Looking forward to returning this one to its former glory as it's my favourite colour and also love the contrasting interior, there can't be many storm greys with cream heated leather and a clear glass 'moonroof??' sunroof surely??

Here's a couple of pics from when I got her home today and ill maybe start a build thread of the bodywork which needs some attention.

Cracking buy that mate, congrats. I was really tempted tbh for the price it was advertised for and I love the Storm Grey Colour, but the missus would have gone absolutely mental.:hitler:

I'm sleeping in the shed... nearly!

I know what you mean, it was a bit too close to Christmas tbh and I've had plenty of grief from the other half but luckily she loves the the corrado's too so 'just got away with it':-D

Yeah funny that, i had a bit of a drive in it earlier and everything felt light and airy in the cabin for a change, as every rado i've had has had black interior! Quite a refreshing change to be honest, and for me makes it a bit more special, dare i say it even more than a storm??? but know where your coming from.

I've got tan leather in the bm also which i've grown to love so can't see it being a problem:-)

Nice, saw this advertised also and thought it was a great price.

What are you planning on doing with the rear arch? If you go the whole hog and cut it out to cure the rust, I have a cut off arch that could be used.

Look forward to seeing how this progresses. Like this colour lots.

Ah good to know as it's not as bad as I first thought, but cutting out the bad would be a proper job, well a new quarter would be a proper job! When I've got an experts opinion on the case I may well be in touch:-) cheers

I'll keep progress updated but maybe after chrimbo now, if I want to keep my wheels, (on me not the car)

Adam was a top man and also a lovely family, couldn't of wished for a nicer family to buy the car from, and could tell the vr6 was one of the family and felt especially bad that his mum missed the car being driven away:-(

But rest assured it's gone to a good home, I'm a 37 year old father now and had my first vr6 when I was 21 or so and have had my fair share of performance cars over the years but I always new I would end up back in a vr6, they definatly have character:-)

Going to take the corrado down to my friends unit tonight so we can have a look underneath and also get the sunroof sorted along with the passenger footwell leak which needs sorting asap. Then I'll be handing the car to another friend who is a an A1 bodywork specialist who will be returning the corrado to its former glory.

And I've driven enough vr6's to know if they've been looked after and this one definatly has, my friend drive the car home and kept pace with my remapped 330d so definatly nothing wrong with the power side of things:-)

I'll keep the thread updated with some before and after bodywork photos and also subtle plans I have for the car such as koni/coilovers and Bmc etc

You can tell Adam I'm very happy with the car and it will be looked after:-)

Good bit of progress today trying to find where the leak was coming from and also removing the sunroof to fix and sort that out.

First off was to remove all trim pieces to remove headlining, also removed some old aerial cable and alarm cable which was cut at both ends

Then out with the sunroof

image_zpsf06a6c7a.jpg

The sunroof was in a bad shape with a broken fixing point and also the bonding had gone causing the roof to lift from its mountings, going to investigate more tomorrow night as emphasis was on fixing the passenger side leak today

Now on with removing the carpets

image_zpsf455971d.jpg

Found floor to be wet through so removed sound deadening to dry out

image_zps16da874f.jpg

Condensation collecting inside roof!

image_zps4db49510.jpg

Then decided to get the car outside and pour water over the passenger side windscreen door area which then revealed three drips from inside the car under the scuttle and near the fan blower, heres my mate blowing out the scuttle with an air line

image_zpsc911147b.jpg

Found the foilage seal in a bad way so will replace this tomorrow

image_zpsedc70916.jpg

Also removed the ecu and found three drilled holes?? underneath which are letting water in, will be sealing these tomorrow also

So a good day and pretty sure i've found the cause of my wet floor wells. Next up is to get everything back in and try to make a working sunroof from two that i have and then tackle the bodywork

The holes look like somethings been mounted from inside the bulkhead, alarm or tracker maybe? as theres no way you would get a drill bit inside the scuttle area! wierd one

Would that work?? mate was gonna weld it but he was worried about the sound deadening catching fire so i think ill just treat it put some sealant in there for now

Sealed the tiny holes in the bulkhead under the Ecu last night and put everything back in the scuttle, will test for further leaks tonight then if leak free will be refitting the sunroof as my mate should have it fixed by today:-)

Nice. Best colour :)

Thanks portent, i've admired your car a few times, very nice, and mine will be nice when i've finished with it:-)

Fitting a replacement sunroof today from a mk3 golf and then getting all the interior trim back in, then will probably tackle the body work after christmas now
