anyone do the audi brake upgrade?

Recommended Posts

I had the 996 front calipers on my S2 with 315mm disks. They fitted under the OEM 16" wheels but were too close for comfort. Had the disks taken down to 308mm & the calipers brought inboard correspondingly.

I'd guess that you could put a set of rear 996 calipers with VW 280mm disks quite happily under most 16" wheels. You'd have to get some brackets & hoses made up though. From experience, hoses seem to cost £45 a pair and brackets anything from £100-300 a pair. But again - someone needs to take the risk first! The added bonus here is that all the consumable parts are pish cheap (brembo disks £20 ea & textar pads £30 a set).

If I had any intention to go above 15's - I'd be giving it a bash tomorrow!!

(some more info on boxster brakes http://www.bombaydigital.com/boxster/pr ... kes/parts/ )

Same predicament here. I want to keep the Speedlines but that limits brake choice somewhat. AMD sell a kit to go under wheels with an Inside diameter of 340mm which might do the trick. 968 monoblocks, 299x34mm discs and brackets. Not sure how much it is though. Probably a lot knowing them.

The thing with the S2 brakes, they're only 2 pot and 10 years old. If I'm going to do it, may aswell do it properly with some 4 pots, or not at all imo.

Arse, called AmD about their Porsche setup for 15" wheels and they're for the A4/TT/Leon platform only, but they'd happily sell me some 17" TT wheels (for £800 with no tyres) and a Brembo kit for £900.......The words Feck and Off sprang so readily to mind.

Thanks Dinkus, I forgot about the new forum set up.

Thanks loads Geo. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the calipers from?

I got them on here. A guy was selling them in the for sale section. It was back around June sometime but I'm only getting round to doing the conversion now.

Hi,

Just got some insurance money from someone who rear-ended me last january and wanted to do a few mods. I am getting some new wheels, 'cos my speedlines are knackered, and am going up to 17's and would like some advice on a decent brake setup. Not being amazingly technically minded I have read this and don't quite understand everything that goes into changing your brake setup. By the looks of it, the easiest is to go for the 288 VR6 upgrade from the golf mk3/mk4 but I would like some *nice* person just to explain what the costs are to change everthing and what would be required. Probably looking at an *absolute* maximum of £300 on parts....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

p.s. the C is a 95 M VR6

You need the front calipers, carriers, 288mm discs and the hoses off the Golf. Get yourself to a scrappy or keep a look out on VW sites for this setup.

Tou're probably looking at 150->200 bucks. Buying the parts new from VW is out of the question as the coast is fecking high!

Just done this mod on my VR. What a differenc, really scrubs of the speed now with little effort.

Only other thing needed is some nice new brake fluid to bleed the brakes once you've done the switch over. Its quite an easy and straight forward job as long at the old brakes pipes aren't too seized.

Timo.

Can I just mention again that I have an R32 setup in the classifieds section.

Same calipers as the late S2, just with 330mm discs and bigger carriers to suit.
