carrots 1 Posted December 14, 2013 hi i am getting all the bits together for my 20v conversion before i start it,i will be looking for an ecu with the imobilizer removed.not sure if i should run it around standard for a while then get it chipped.its an early agu engine and ideas or prices
Brunty 10 Posted December 14, 2013 I was looking in to this recently. Revo will reprogram your standard ecu with a stage 1 map and remove the immobiliser. You should be able to find your local Revo place on their website, but I'm not sure if you need to send the ecu off somewhere to get it done.

southerner88 10 Posted December 14, 2013 Im looking at getting similar done with a chap on ebay...£300 to splice the engine looms, and also to drop the immobiliser off the ECU. I was told by various people to avoid going revo as it impact further tuning.... Im also using this ebay chap as the ECU I have for the conversion is already tuned to 230bhp and a revo map would overwrite it...
Brunty 10 Posted December 14, 2013 Interesting, I've not heard anything bad about revo before. They've got other maps of you wanted to go stage 2, 2+... But if you didn't want an off the shelf map then a custom map is they way to go anyway.
carrots 1 Posted December 14, 2013 ive seen him on ebay i would be happy with 230bhp or 200bhp even
southerner88 10 Posted December 14, 2013 ive seen him on ebay i would be happy with 230bhp or 200bhp even I rang the ebay chap up and had a chat with himm, they sound like they know what they are doing, I'd recommend ringing them up first before paying to get revo'd, I understand many people have been pleased with revo and what they do, I personally have no experience with them, but apparently it is something to do with the way they map, you have to stay with revo and only use their maps / tuning stuff... The engine for my conversion (after much umming and aring) is a 230bhp pre-tuned Oettinger engine from a mk4 golf GTi, you can pretty much get around 200bhp from a 1.8 20vT with just a basic remap so should be a easy number to reach
Brunty 10 Posted December 14, 2013 I can see why you'd need a custom map if you've got a different head and inlet, fwiw, I would have picked a specialist to map the ecu for that engine. You didn't pick that lump up recently did you? I saw one advertised and wished I'd got the cash! sexybourbon 0 Posted December 15, 2013 Why not just start the build with a bam engine, 225bhp out the box with no need to map and then once your set up and fully bored with 225 go get it mapped up and the bam engines go to 280bhp ! Fun
carrots 1 Posted December 15, 2013 ive already bought a agu engine, bam would be nice but they sell for good money.its a lot to spend in one go
GrahamU 6 Posted December 15, 2013 If you have your ECU mapped by revo they lock it so you cant easily use another tuner, they do the same if you try one of their demo maps at the shows. I used a guy of clubGTI I also know a guy in Norfolk who could do it for you and put a map in if you want, PM me if you would like his number
southerner88 10 Posted December 17, 2013 You didn't pick that lump up recently did you? I saw one advertised and wished I'd got the cash! Yeah got it a couple of months ago, got what i though was a good price for it too, he wanted £1000, after the sob story of "youll be helping to get a Corrado back on the road" etc etc etc got it for £650, bargain i thought!
