A20 LEE 0 Posted May 23, 2004 now that finding a full black leather interior is becoming a pain of a job, i'm thinking of just getting mine re-trimmed, anyone here had theres done and how does it compare to the genuine thing..........any pics please A retrim is much better than a factory leather trim. For a start a VW leather seats only had leather faces. The rest of the seat is PVC. You get what you pay for with retrims, £800 will get you a trim using cheap leather, £1200-1400 for a quality job. *Ben* 0 Posted June 22, 2004 Try Mj Interiors mate they specialize in Veedubs!! think they are pretty pricey though but you get good quality for your money!! :thumbleft:
stel g60 0 Posted June 22, 2004 mines got a re trim and you cant really tell apart from the doorcards. i used to work with leather trimmers and its not as hard to do a retrim as most people think, leathers not too expensive either. what your actually paying for is the luxury of having leather rather than the leather itself or someones labour. prices are about right as A20 LEE said and the better quality leather is worth the extra money imo
aposegil 0 Posted June 22, 2004 got to agree with Stel and Lee Cloth retrim are better than standrad as they have a wide base and atleast everything will be leather and not PVC  but unless you can get the door cards to look like the original it kind of lets it down :( (sorry Stel dont worry it also includes my mate Pete)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted June 22, 2004 I would also agree with Lee that over a grand is the ball park for a decent job. I've seen some well ropey retrims that cost less than a grand that weren't a patch on VW's standards. If you can get good quality leather wholesale and know a good seamstress, then you can make them yourself using the cloth as templates. A mate got his Mum to do his seats years ago and the results were superb.
