Polish Restos - Tomi, Karmannski...

Got chatting to a bloke today about cars and that, he was asking about my Corrado and I said it needs a bit of paintwork. He said "You want to send it over to Poland mate. My brother in laws got a TR6 and was quoted around £15k over here to get it restored, had it done in Poland and it cost £9.5k including getting it there and back and the quality of the work is outstanding"

 

Now I don't really know this bloke but he sounded convincing.

 

Just wondered what peoples thoughts on this were?

Just bought an abs pump off a polish guy call Wojtek. Sounds familiar and think he may even be on here. He's text me a couple of times and seems a good bloke, although I'll wait until I receive it and it's been fitted before fully commuting to that statement. Tbf the Polish chaps on this forum all seem like good honest people, and it's there perogative what they charge. People are obviously buying stuff and he can probably make far more shipping it and selling over here. I'm sure that's what the majority would do if they knew the market elsewhere.

Nicely kills jobs in the UK ;)

I don't like the fact it kill's job's over here either but if you can get the same standard of job done for a fair bit cheaper why not?

Because that attitude ultimately will kill your job, if your employer can find it cheaper elsewhere ...

 

Sad but true, just heard that story recently again, where he Dixons group killed a few hundred TV- and mobile phone repair jobs in the UK, outsourcing it all to Poland, leaving these highly skilled workers in the UK stuffed.

I do understand what your saying Eric my employers do work for some big player's Nacco,Caterpillar,Alexander Dennis,Terex and regarding some part's some of them high value they have been under threat from China but so far they have not been able to replicate in anywhere near the desired quality but then when your talking basically brake caliper's or parts of the brake's/axle on rather large mining/quarry equipment it's not surprising really.Regarding some thing's like the above mentioned it will take these up and coming places a long time to catch up and in turn over here we are progressing so the gap should remain. Dixon's will regret it no doubt you heard it hear first.

I have only today (8 months later) read that thread.

I paid £600 for outer body respray on one of my rados in Poland 1,5yrs back.

I think that full respray inc engine bay, would cost ~£1000, but then I would recomend you all to remove the windshieald and all othere windows yourself b4 you send the car & remove all trims/sunroof/windows your self as they do not have much expirience of how to do it.

Or we can do that here for you.

 

To transport Corrado to Poland & back cost ~£600.

Covered it in Wheeler Dealers I think - didn't Brewer get his E-Type restored Poland as it would cost a crap tonne less money and be done to just as good a standard?

The final result on corrado was very good, it is much less compare to UK but then by doing it here you have more confidance that if something will peal of in 6 months you can always go back. They will stil give 12months warranty but distance is the problem.

But If I would have to paint my car again I would send it to Poland 100% can have my car painted and go for holiday all inclusive..

BUT, being half Polish and having lived in England my whole life, work over there is of such a good standard and half the price! The beer is better and costs peanuts. And the women, oh the women :dance:

 

Roll on summer and me and the C are going over to see the family!

I've heard a few cases of jag enthusiast club guys sending big restoration out to Poland... I can see why - the "scene tax" we moan about is like a drop in the ocean for old jag work!

Having footed a bill just for a regular service on a '67 Daimler V8 at a local specialist earlier this year (which was several times that of the average Corrado service bill) I can imagine that restoration work carries a similarly ludicrous 'tax' as well. They said that servicing these old cars is far more labour intensive - having to set up carburetors correctly, attention to the underbody / chassis, grease points, etc - but still..
