Wayne2015 10 Posted May 9, 2015 Anyone know what this rubber strap is for??
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted May 9, 2015 It's not rubber, it's a bonding lead that should connect the bonnet to the body. Most peoples are like yours and it doesn't really effect anything. I think it's designed to help the radio signal. New ones will break quickly so not worth replacing like for like. Get a proper cable and attach it to the body and bonnet if you are bothered. It's likely been like that for years.... I think this topic has come up twice in the last few weeks...

Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted May 9, 2015 Just remove it completely Wayne. If you find that you struggle with radio reception, replace it but modern radios and aerials (now that you have one) are much better than the stuff fitted 20 odd years ago.

Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted May 14, 2015 Did you fit that little white bit of plastic that goes over the bit of metal you bent back with pliers? I can't see it on the pictures.
Wayne2015 10 Posted May 14, 2015 Did you fit that little white bit of plastic that goes over the bit of metal you bent back with pliers? I can't see it on the pictures. er It dropped into the big black hole inside the door card at one point :( What was its purpose anyway?
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted May 14, 2015 It slides over the bit of metal you were bending and stops the handle from rattling.

Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted May 14, 2015 VW don't put anything in for no reason. It cost's them to do it in the first place.

Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted May 14, 2015 Go to VW, that's where I got mine from during the rebuild. They cost pennies and are used on a few cars so should be easy enough to source.

Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted May 14, 2015 Yeah, Remove the handle again, slide it over the bit of metal you were bending and refit the handle. It is U-Shaped and it's pretty obvious when you have it in front of you.

Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted May 14, 2015 That's it Wayne. 12a should be on the inside face of the handle. If it's missing, it's also easy to fit and cheap enough.
