Stealth Racing: Looking at a small remap

Recommended Posts

Looking at a remap for my 1994 VR6

Just a small one to have a more responsive engine and remove those flat spots.

I prefer a small remap hoping that is all is needed - and no extra work/mods is required?

Since I am thinking of taking my car to Stealth to do the Timing Chain, maybe best to get a remap from them?

What / where do people recommend?

and how much?

Not sure what the timing chain involves, but surely if it's head off then drop some cams in while you there (this spending other peoples money is easy)

Me and my car-numpty cap on,

I think the price I got from Stealth includes:

1. Timing Chain

2. Rebuild cam heads?

3. Clutch

4. Water pump (optional)

What is rebuild cam heads?

And what is "drop cams in"?

Think he just means to fit some uprated cams. Stealth have a very good reputation for remapping the VR6. It's not an aggressive remap where you get large spikes of power, but it improves throttle response and the power curves are very linear so you get nice consistent gains all the way through the rev range. uprated cams will give you a little more as well but that's another few hundred on top.

Cheers guys!

Just a cheaper remap will do for me then!

Cant justify the cams AFTER todays jaw-dropping bill at the garage :(

Please elaborate on 263s!

Costs?

Love it....one minute he can't afford, then 7 mins later he's pondering more power. :o

Not sure I love this forum or hate it too!

One minute I paid good price for a car.

Next minute I ploughed in MORE than its bought price! Eeeek!

Lol

Seriously

I like to get my moneys worth!

I only want to do things once.

So if it costs me say £200 for a remap and another £50 to add 263s then I ll do it.

But if it costs another £100 for 263s or that I have to drive all the way to Midlands again to get it done for £50 - then its not value for money for me.

Its just a shame if by paying a bit more I might get more value for money - best to have an informed choice (wink)(wink)

Cool!

Thanks Buddy! :thumbleft::thumbleft::thumbleft:

Whizzed through most of that - might have not read all, but to summarise:

1. Go for 263 (better value for money and power from low to top) approx £350+ (Fitting cost???)

2. Leave 268 (power mid to top)

3. Most people fit cams then remap

4. Fitting cams alone or just a remap yields similar results? Some debate about if add cams then u SHOULD remap...

5. Bits and bats about VSR? Shrick? etc

6. in 2009 remap was £275+vat from Stealth

So for me

though a very crude decision (based on my quick summary above):

1. Cheaper to just do a remap (price maybe more than £275+vat now)

2. Cams just too expensive at £350+fitting

3. As long as a remap gives a better delivery of power across the ranges AND removes flat spots then I am happy bunny

Will try to meetup with Vince/John on Monday or Tuesday of the coming week.....shame I can't take my Corrado with me for them to look at :(:(:(

Ask stealth to use the steel head gasket to bump up compression which in its self will give bit more torque all over

Or save your money and go 24v, better base unit

Oh

Lumpy idle can feel like about to stall :(

No thank you my car is like THAT all the time now! Eeeek!

Stalled SIX times in one lunch time - hence now she s parked up in the garage :(

Still unsure what the TOTAL cost of fitting 263s + remap would be????
