PLEASE help me service my car ...

Recommended Posts

Hi

I bought my VR6 a fortnight ago.

It broke down 20mins after leaving the seller s house.

Booked into local specialist a week later - got quoted a bill of £1000 - eeeek!

2 weeks after ownership, and its been with the specialist for a week now :(

Initially plans of having Stealth to:

- replace timing chain / clutch / etc

- small remap

Is now down the drains (can't justify £2k of work now :()

As garage is ONLY fixing problems.

My car still needs a major service.

I am useless with car service and my bank balance looking very worried...

If I source the parts (any recommendations where)?

Can some kind gent of lady help me service it?

Dont have to be all the parts,

Just any time u can spare and we just do as much as we can within that time.

Beer tokens, pub carvery or anything u fancy available! ;)

I prefer someone within 15 miles from Bradford, West Yorkshire.

Or

Anyone from Bristol over Easter (1st 2 weeks of Easter hols)?

Cheers everyone!

Wayne

You don't want to really, nobody lives out this far into the sticks!

Nice, quiet windy roads - heaven! :)

If you can bring it to Barnsley I'll help you out mate. I keep my rado in a unit there with ramps and plenty of tools.

I already read about your harsh beginning to rado ownership so will happily help out.

I can also buy in the service kit you need from tps in advance so pm me and we can arrange something. Is it just a general health check of systems and fluids? Will do oil and filter at least as it's only going to be ~£20.

I'm not a business by the way so I won't land you a big bill :)

4. PAS fluid

5. Gearbox fluid

6. Brake fluid

Some really good value for money parts supplier from Seanl82 :)

Wayne, I got my spark plugs from ebay as they were linked to me from another forum member and were the cheapest I could find. NGK BKR5EKU, and were £20.54 delivered for the 6, from Automotive parts distribution ltd according to the invoice. Again, I bought them through ebay though. Oil, I use Fuchs titan pro race 10w 50 from opie oils. Its certainly not cheap, but is one of the best oils on the market, and makes a noticeable improvement/reduction in engine noise. Oil filter can be had by most major motor factors, but I'd recommend their "premium" brand rather than the cheaper ones. PAS fluid, make sure you use the VW green type fluid. I got mine from AVS Spares. DO NOT use ATF, or any other standard type steering fluid that is red/pink in colour. I'm not massively in the know about the reasons why, but these cars seriously don't like it! We're talking almost instant failure and leaking of pumps and racks in some cases!

Brake fluid is fine, so any decent brand dot 4 fluid is sufficient. Make sure you tell the garage to bleed the clutch and abs pump as well, and emphasise that they bleed the brake master cylinder. This is where 99% of people fail if they don't know the car, when trying to bleed the braking system. If there is air in the master cylinder, you can pump 5 litres of fluid through the system, and still not have a solid pedal.

Aftermarket air filter, get a K&N cleaning kit, follow the instructions, and be careful not to put too much oil on it as the oil kills MAFs pretty sharpish. Apart from inspection and greasing routines, thats all thats really required mate.

So long as nothing is rotten together, there should only be about 3 or 4 hours work there. Easy for somebody like vag hag especially when he has access to a workshop!

Tis what I WORRIED about :-(

Either rotten, rusted, seized, worked, damaged and then

Other things starts to go wrong ....could be a can of worms - eeeek!

HairyArse!

As i was to be able to service my car in future (be it the Corrado or my Prelude etc),

Shall i invest in some basic generic tools?

1. Oil filter tool?

2. Sparks tool?

3. Whatelse for basic service (oil/filter/spark/pads/discs)?

Thanks :)

A halfords socket set, best you can afford, should be all you need for basic servicing. Halfords sometimes sell their tool sets for half price, for example, I bought the top model for £150.

After that, a trolley jack and axle stands and a decent hammer and that will do most of what you want.

No rush!

I will also asked garage if they checked everything too.

So if they say sparks are quite new then we can leave those!

So we can just concentrate on bits that need doing on the day ;)

PM me your number and we will discuss sometime next week (or when i deffo have my car back)!

Then decide which Sunday best thereafter ;)

Is that ok with u?
