Anyone know this VR

Recommended Posts

I've been after a Blackberry VR since I was a late teen (now turning 40) and finally took ownership of one yesterday, call it fate but I was looking to sell a Discovery TD5 when I spotted a guy looking for a swap offer on a VR and was seeking a land rover...

Here's the not so good bit, the car in question was won at a Edition 38 show prior to the previous keeper and somewhere along the way all history has been misplaced, I have done a little digging and found loads of old photos but very little info about the car and how it came to end up a prize at a VW show hosted by Edition38.

The car sports Club GB merchandise including number plate holders and window stickers so I presume it has belonged to a member prior to being raffled off, I have since joined the club and posted the same info on the club site in the hopes someone recognises it.

I am a serious owner and plan to restore the car so any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

Here is the pic as the car stands now since I polished it as the previous keeper never really bothered with it:

Here are a few pics I've found searching the internet but very little info regarding its history:

Some point, not long after the lad won it the car suffered paint damage by what looked like nitromours, this paint damage is still evident but not as bad as shown in the pictures below:

Thanks and I look forward to seeing some of you at shows this summer...

I have posted pics on E38 enquiring about it but as of this morning not had any info.

The winner was a lad going by the username SamC but he can't really offer any info about the car as he sold it pretty much as soon as the temp insurance ran out.

The fella I got it off barely used it and did nothing to the car, I would really like to speak with the owner who had it befor ed38 or someone that knew how it came to be the prize.

It was the 2012 raffle car at Edition38, speak to Steve Denton - he painted the car at the time, I spoke to Wayne at Edition the other day abut the car, they didn't have much history with the car when they gave it away...

Cheers for that info, you wouldn't happen to know if there was a build thread on it would you, also do you know Steve Dentons username on e38.

Glad I joined, starting to get a clearer view of what I have bought... Just have to check through previous owners posts to see what else the car suffered from... Still love it though.

Great to see a car of this quality just 5 miles away. All the best mate would love to pop round and see it at some point, you've got a great base to start with and it'll be one of the best when finished. Haway the Heed :)

Thanks for the comments, brought the VR back from the garage to investigate, turns out there is a burnt out ignition wire near the solenoid. Causing a short inside the starter, its been present sometime as the cable is oxidised.

So I'm currently running the T4 until I get 5mins free from work to get it sorted.

On a positive note I've just sent the faces of my 17" BBS away to have powder coated cream...... Not everyone's taste but I like the idea.

Stripped the interior out to fit new heater control and give it a good old clean, wasn't long before I was pleasantly surprised:

Unused first aid kit and triangle

Seats out and good old Henry done the rest:

Dash and all plastics to be removed and given a thorough clean.

Came home tonight after work and decided to tackle the heater controller, new one looked spot on but seems as though it is also a little worse for wear, it may have got me by but it turns out the cable or the actual heater mech needs further investigation.

So this is where I'm at tonight:

Might just get the dash out and have a look at the heater mech and cable, whilst this far.

Got the centres back today thought about a copper colour but went with cream (nearest I could get to VW L90H) powder coated then a laquer finish , just need to set about the rims now.

Struggling a little with the dash removal.

whats up with the dash removal?

It's had a Toad alarm and full ICE install, the wiring, modules etc have been taped and cabled tied to the car harness and brackets, the amps and speaker cabling is also routed behind the dash so having to work my way through what goes where.

Just need to locate the bolts in the engine bay but lost the light.

Bigger issue might be locating a new heater casing as I've noticed bits are missing.

Hi Kev

that bolt stays in the engine bay if that makes sense and the box becomes easier to pull out.

I have a couple of boxes mate if you need one give me a shout

Cracking lad, though caused me no end of grief when the missus got her eye on the land and horses .
