sump gaskets on a 2.9 vr6 - sealant or no sealant?

do you really need to seal these up with mucky black rtv sealant?? its a nice elring gasket ive bought, but i see people have mixed views on using sealant? whats the point if it already has a gasket? 2.9 vr6. kind regards :thumbleft:

what is key is not overtightening the sump bolts which will cause the lip to flex and indeed lead to leaking.

Yep as above, don't buckle the sump by over tightening the bolts. You don't need sealant if it's the rubber gasket.

its a cork / card type gasket from elring, but ideally i wanted rubber but cant find a decent rubber make?

Victor Reinz makes rubber gasket's for the VR6......
