T-mo13 10 Posted June 1, 2015 I have a Sony head unit. And for the most part it is fine. But every now and then it will either turn off then straight back on. Or stay off until I restart the engine. any recommendations would be great. Thanks
sankysvr6 0 Posted June 1, 2015 Possible causes would be a faulty head unit, or a faulty ignition switch. Best bet would be to use a multimeter and check which rail is going off. Should have a permanent 12v A ground wire And a switched 12v which will go live, when you turn the key to the first click
Wayne2015 10 Posted June 1, 2015 (edited) 1. Remove 2. Check all wiring 3. Ensure all wire connections are tight Mine did that Either when car moving or just by turning up volume In the end had a few lose wire connections - just tighten and sorted. And make sure not to squash all the wires when pushing stereo back in! But I could be wrong! But no harm in checking ... :thumbleft: Edited June 1, 2015 by Wayne2015
Dox 23 Posted June 1, 2015 Does the radio retain the stored stations or do you have to retune each time?
T-mo13 10 Posted June 2, 2015 It retains all the stations. And taking the front off and putting back on usually sorts it.
Dox 23 Posted June 2, 2015 It retains all the stations. And taking the front off and putting back on usually sorts it. Then its an ignition live issue (permenant live and earth must be OK otherwise you'd need to retune the stations) or the facia connections themselves
T-mo13 10 Posted June 2, 2015 Ok cheers. I've ordered a new Sony 16 ok. Plug. If it still does it I'll just have a perminant live and turn it on/off manually.
GrahamU 6 Posted June 2, 2015 If removing and replacing the front fixes it, then it could be the connections between the front panel and the main part of the radio Give them a clean with some fine emery or a glass fiber brush
T-mo13 10 Posted June 2, 2015 It doesn't sort it every time. I'm pretty sure he guys have hit it on her head with either the ignition or faulty connector 👍
GrahamU 6 Posted June 2, 2015 No worries, keep it in mind if the rest doesn't work I used to fix ford radio's for a living and you wouldn't believe how many radios were replaced under warranty for a dirty or corroded removable panel
