PhatVR6 0 Posted June 24, 2004 I don't think I'd swap my VR for any car that I could buy with what I'd get for it. Say it was worth £6K, what can you get for that that'll drive and look just as good and be as fast? nowt. and £10K still doesn't really broaden the scope. New carsa re horrible anyway, i don't think I'd have any new car under £35K, but I can't afford one...hence the 10 year old corrado.
StirlingStorm 0 Posted June 24, 2004 Yeah it does look very Chrysler now you mention it. Shame really, the concept is bang-on I think, just let down by the styling a bit. Apparently, according to the Top Gear site it's going to get a V6 option when it comes out in spring 2006 so at least it's sounding better in the engine department even though they do say the styling won't change much. One hand giveth whilst the other puncheth thee in thy knackers :) Phat, you're right about new cars, most are pretty unattractive. I'm hoping my Storm stays in one piece for 3-4 more years before it gives up & I have to start worrying more seriously about what to replace it with. Vmax 0 Posted June 26, 2004 I made this very choice only a couple of weeks ago, in the end I went for the Integra Type R (DC2) to replace my VR6 - for sale as soon as I can get around to it :) The Integra is a very different car to the VR, nothing like as relaxing to drive, but on the right road it is pretty sensational. It is VERY noisy at motorway speeds, but most of my journeys are quite short, although I will miss the effortless nature of the Corrado. samm_cvr6 0 Posted February 8, 2005 How does the 968 compare to the V8 928? I think I would go for an E36 EVO- It has so much going for it-Beautiful engine, stealth, interior, build quality.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 8, 2005 If it's a 968 CS, then absolutely no comparison to the 928! The 928 is more of a tourer and that V8 is notoriously unreliable...it keeps overheating and costs a FORTUNE to repair and maintain....apparently it was so bad, people used to junk the porker V8 and stick a rover V8 in it's place  Clarksons constantly breaking down on Top Gear is not far from the truth..... E36 Evo - Great cars, again, only if you can afford the upkeep. A very low mileage one will serve you well for a few years with no problems but get one that's long in the tooth and you'll be buying a money pit. Cracked exhaust manifold - £1000. Replacement ignition module - £500. VANOS units - you'd better sit down. Door glass drop module (lowers window slightly to relieve cabin pressure) - £250. Wiper relay module - £196. Mega expensive cars if they go wrong mate but thankfully, most E36 Evos were well looked after..... but they are the common issues.
samm_cvr6 0 Posted February 8, 2005 I guess we could go on about the Jap Skylines/Supras but that would open a new can of worms ay!
gradeAfailure 0 Posted February 8, 2005 I say go for Audi and Porsche combined - the RS2 Avant! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... eName=WDVW or in RHD: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... eName=WDVW Plus I believe that in Europe they happily tune them up to over 600bhp... Guest Posted February 9, 2005 I was seriosly tempted by an immaculate 944 Turbo SE for sale at a highly rerputable dealer not far from me - withi my price range at £7400 but maintenance costs frightened me off - plus the other half was insisting on another rag top
samm_cvr6 0 Posted February 9, 2005 got any pics of that RS2? I think there is one on my road. So do you think a 968 will be cheaper to run than an E36 EVO? And is it as quick?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 9, 2005 You could always opt for the normal S2, which is the Coupe based one. Still quick and can be made to go stupidly quick. *Good* RS2s still fetch top dollar. For the 968, a good source of info here:- http://www.porsche968uk.co.uk/ I would say both the Evo and 968 are good buys if you find a youthful one, but the high milers are both going to cost you in terms of maintenance. Standard 968 is not as fast as Evo 3.2 M3. 968 CS (club sport) is a bit quicker than standard....but will P all over the M3 on a track. The 968 Turbo RS is the one you want for speed...will eat the M3 alive.
samm_cvr6 0 Posted February 9, 2005 looks like a very well engineered car the 968 then.
