Possible to repair (weld or something else) a crankshaft? (for a vintage compressor)

Recommended Posts

Just out of curiosity, would there be any chance of fixing a crank shaft on an old/vintage compressor?

Sitting like this (have both the "parts" of the shaft):

You could lathe drill and tap a thread into the end as a cheap fix. If you weld you would need deep penetration. It looks like high carbon steel? It will probably unbalance at high rpms a touch. Take it apart and have a new shaft made up. Won't cost too much.
