Storm grey VR6 - Sold

Recommended Posts

A few things ordered for whatever reason.

Bonnet bra and clear sticky vinyl to protect where the bra can rub.

Handbrake clips, headlight adjusting clips, gear cable repair thingy and underside brake pipe clips all for just in case.

Dark tinted rear lights, top half anyway to see if it looks good with the black and grey theme.

Thinking about the wee jobs I can get done at next MOT time in Spring -

Got the valve and fixings for the rear bias valve replacement

Got new front brake shields for fitting

Renewing all the brake pipes when system is empty

Thinking about rear axle bushes ?

New exhaust going on in a couple of weeks and I was considering a black tailpipe but the company does not do them ?

So I've now ordered the following from VW -

rear axle bushes with bolts and nuts

strut to axle bolts and nuts

rear ARB bushes

axle to underside bolts

May as well change them all when the rear bias valve and new brake pipes are going on next year.

Just managed to buy a rear axle only 5 miles away, so pick it up on Sat hopefully.

Will slowly refurb it for swapping next year at MOT time.

All the brakes on the car are new apart from the brake pipes and bias valve, so I can build the beam up without the discs etc and they can go on in the garage.

I've ordered stub axle bolts now as well, need to get new stub axles at some point.

I'm just winging it as usual and hopefully I can do a proper job of it and the end result will be a fully powdercoated beam with all new parts on it.

If I'm missing any parts hopefully someone will tell me.

Time will tell.

Cheers hopefully I will do it correctly, I don't need it done but every winter I try and do one area of whatever car I have as a toy.

The guy has the front subframe as well so thinking about buying that too

The spare beam is not in good enough condition so I'm binning it.

Just going to get the bushes and bias valve done on the car the next time it's in the garage.

Waste of a few quid :bonk:

When i took mine off it looked horrendous. But after it was stripped of the rust it looked 1000 times better. Painted made me happy with it. Just a thought

The new beam is just not a patch on the existing one, so even though it might turn out alright it is just no where near to the same standard so I'm not changing it.

I had stripped or should I say cut off the discs, calipers and carriers but it's grim.

Even though I won't have the chance to get the existing beam powder coated I will have all its working parts replaced.

Changed the rear lights to the tinted ones which look decent but if I don't like them in the long run I can swap them over.

Gave the area around the lights a good clean down and wax for protection when the lights were out.

Rubbish pics as I never took the car out in the heavy heavy rain.

Purchased a spare grill, primarily to get the VR6 badge as the original badge I painted black.

Thinking about getting the spare grill painted Storm Grey for swaps with the black badges on it ??
