16vMatt 10 Posted October 1, 2015 Hi everyone basically been looking at a few engine conversions for inspiration for a winter project on my Corrado. The thought of an R32 in my corrado sounds like the stuff of dreams to me. The thing is everyone seems to have done this to VR6's so is it possible to do to a 2.0 16v? And what budget am I looking at for D.I.Y? Also suggestions for a good engine conversion to upgrade the Corrado to match something modern.
MZpog 10 Posted October 1, 2015 What modern car are you wanting to keep up with? It's probably cheaper to sell your valver and buy one that's already had a transplant rather than do it yourself. The valver is probably a worse choice of base as it has smaller brakes than the VR so you also need to upgrade them to cope with extra power.

No car in particular I suppose I just want a faster car and refuse to sell my C to fund one ;) I have thought about selling it but I couldn't, I learnt how to spray cars with it, how to install speakers etc its too personal. I'm not that worried about the aspect of D.I.Y, I'm a 1st year engineering student at college so have plenty of time on my hands and access to welders etc. But is it possible to fit? MZpog 10 Posted October 1, 2015 I upgraded the valver a bit so it drives better and is slightly faster, but it's still slow. Suppose any engine would fit (where's there's a will there's a way) but at what cost. You could always source an old turbo kit for the valver or supercharge it......come to think of it, someone's selling a supercharged ABF lump on ebay at the moment, that could suit your needs and will fit. Just had look on eBay at it. Impressive bit of kit but over 250 miles away.

seanl82 23 Posted October 1, 2015 1.8 20vT from a mk4 Golf, Leon Cupra R, Audi TT/S3 etc, with the K03s or K04 Turbo will see you well. Tons of info as its been done loads already, and with a remap you'll have more than enough power. Loads of these lumps available or even a decent donor car for reasonable money now too. bristolbaron 10 Posted October 1, 2015 Only difference in fitting to a 16v is you need the VR cross member and VR clocks. It's also worth upgrading at the same time to 5 stud, to give you more brake options, but not essential... My old R32 was originally a G60 with 305mm ibiza cupra brembo's upfront and 280's rear. 16vMatt 10 Posted October 1, 2015 Both of these options sound like a lot of fun. Think I'll go with the 1.8 20vT as they seem more readily available and cheaper too. Thanks Chaps expect to see a winter build thread for my C after I've put a diesel into my T25 pickup. Out of curiosity MZpog what upgrades did you do to your valver? seanl82 23 Posted October 1, 2015 Iirc, a set of KR or ABF cams in your 9A will see you to about 170bhp on their own too mate.

Mmm so many options to look into, is reboring the engine and placing bigger cylinders in an option along with the ABR cams?
seanl82 23 Posted October 1, 2015 I wouldn't bother with internal work like that. Waste of money for negligable gains tbh. The 9a cams are very restrictive, so the KR or ABF cams make a real difference, but other than that its not worth doing. You could spend a grand on port matching, polishing, reboring, etc etc for about a 10 bhp difference. If power is what you're after, FI is the way to go hands down. dragon green 5 Posted October 1, 2015 Go 20vt,you won't regret it, I certainly don't !

16vMatt 10 Posted October 1, 2015 Go 20vt,you won't regret it, I certainly don't ! Only thing I'm hesitant about doing an engine swap such as R32 or 20Vt is having to tell my insurance. Due to me being young my insurance certainly isn't cheap and I couldn't afford to not tell them about the swap in case of an accident and they were to check engine numbers. Simple bolt on modest upgrades as it is a daily drive.....KR cams = great bang for bucks upgrade, K&N panel, 50mm intake = looks great but allegedly you loose an bit of torque (I didn't notice) but gain some bhp and revs (I noticed this :) ), chipped = seemed more eager and gave better drivability, decat and full jetex. I've no idea what power it's putting out and really should have it run/setup on a rolling road. Next consideration for me is a 4-1 manifold if I could get one that definitely fits (most online suggest won't fit RHD corrado with power steering)
Liam20vT 10 Posted October 2, 2015 You would be suprised with insurance, it's not as bad as you think! Ring up a load of specialists and shop around. IIRC I was paying around 1k on my 20vt rado at 19/20 with a whole heap of mods, wheels, coils, brakes, interior etc etc
16vMatt 10 Posted October 11, 2015 I've found an AUM 1.8T engine and gearbox just round the corner from me within my price range. What gear would I need to get this into my C? Thanks for the help so far everyone
MikeyGordon 10 Posted October 11, 2015 Intercooler, DownPipe, wiring loom, G60 flywheel, VR6 clutch. Not hard in a Rado, all your engine mounts will bolt straight onto the 1.8t, use your own gearbox. Get the wiring loom and ECU with the engine if possible.
Chuggs1 10 Posted October 11, 2015 Tell me more Don't know much about it but have heard it can be done and has been on a couple of occasions..... Take a look on you tube there are some on there. Don't think any one on the forum has yet but am willing to be told im wrong lol
seanl82 23 Posted October 11, 2015 Not looked through it myself, but pretty sure everything you need will be listed in this thread somewhere mate. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?36117-The-Forced-Induction-20V-Thread
