graham1971 10 Posted October 14, 2015 I know the automatic VR6 wasn't everyone's cup of tea (just getting that out there before the inevitable comments about manual conversion or scrapping!) but my wife only drives auto and I wanted a Corrado so a compromise was reached! The problem I have is that the Corrados automatic gearbox appears to be stuck in 3rd gear when drive is engaged, believe it or not she still drives but revs quite high when pulling off, other than that you can't really tell much is wrong. She's not currently a daily driver although she was until July this year so we're trying not to drive her until she's better. There's no way I'm getting rid of her or scrapping her so my questions are: 1. Does anyone know the gearbox code for a '93 VR6 automatic? 2. Does anyone know of any other VAG cars that used the same gearbox? And 3. Does anyone know of any business that would specialise in this kind of work ?(preferably in South Wales but will travel) I realise it won't be cheap but I'm not letting go too easily! Dox 23 Posted October 14, 2015 Oil level is critical on autos, does the oil look clean or smell burnt? A VCDS scan would also help pinpoint any issues with the gearbox
graham1971 10 Posted October 14, 2015 Transmission Oil was done about 12 months ago, proper VAG fluid used, scan says gearbox fault!!!! No real surprise there!
fla 9 Posted October 14, 2015 Could you post up the fault codes? I imagine you will have 00518 and 00638. You xan also get a friction modifier like lubegard. In fact thats one of the only ones I would use.
graham1971 10 Posted October 14, 2015 I can get the fault codes tomorrow as they're in the garage, there's been a lot of toothsucking this week!! I doubt it will be transmission Oil though, that was changed professionally 12 months and about 2k miles ago using all genuine VAG fluids and filters etc, I have a feeling this will be something altogether more painful and expensive! Dox 23 Posted October 14, 2015 http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Fault_Codes If you get the codes cross ref with the rosstech wiki and it will give some advice what to look for.
