How do i get some noise from a G60?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, will hopefully be getting a G60 this weekend, and was wondering the best way to get some noise out of it? I've read a couple of threads sayin BOV's are rubbish on them, so is this boost return/blanking plate mod thing the way to go? If so where can i get the parts and how much? Heard a sound clip on the Pitstop Developments site which sounded ideal :D , is that achieved with this mod? And will it affect the fuel consumption? Any help greatfully appreciated. Thanks

you'll need the boost return removal done then.... Ask Darren (G-man on here) for one of his excellent kits... Around £35 IIRC... If anything this will actually make the engine run slightly better so won't affect your fuel economy.... 8)

IIRC = If I Remember Correctly

I think that the kit consists of a blanking plate and a couple of filters and it's simple to fit too... 8)

He'll probably be along shortly anyway, but you can contact G-man by sending him a private message by using the button up at the top of the page... 8)

christ, i'm tring to make mine quieter. they can really drown on the motor way, and the induction is VERY loud. get a k&n panel remove the silencer snorkel, ,.. and see how you get on, if you want it louder, well that bits easy.

I cant believe wot a difference in sound removing the restrictor from the airbox makes!!!

It makes the car sound REALLY meaty, almost like an old V8 or summit!! hehehe :D

Goodridge, you might be putting the cart before the horse here! You want everyone within a certain radius of your new toy to know that you have a G60, that's cool, but lets get the sequence of things right. By carrying out the progressive stages of tuning to your G60 you will allow it in turn to reward you with the unique howls, whistles and even roaring that all G60's are infamous for. Before you start tuning however fisrt be sure that your basic engineering is in good order and that you are not going to be causing further strain on worn components. The main concern on a G60 of unknown heritage is the charger, which requires rebuilding at 40,000 mile intervals, when was yours last done? The basics being sorted you can then start your quest for NOISE !! The first stage would include induction mods, exhaust and cat mods, chip and smaller pulley for the charger, and possibly a stage 4 charger re-build. where you go from here is down to your personal aspirations and budget, but if done well and quality parts are used and fitted by a G60 specialist you will have a much more responsive engine and no need for any other ICE install, the G60 music will ring out. For the ultimate sound from a G60 engine, treat your ears to the sound a 16V G60 makes as it winds up to 7000 RPM.

That noise of the wine on the recording is the tooth belt drive with a boost blow off valve when changing gear. Will someone correct me if i am wrong buy having a boost blow off valve dont you get a fine mist of oil being spat arround the engine bay.

K&N filter & airbox snorkel removed is quite a deafening combination it has to be said.. combine that with a nice exhaust system, and people will seriously hear you coming from quite a distance! :)

What does this boost return kit actually do?

It removes the standard boost return pipe work which feeds unused boost back into the charger... The theory is that this boost will be warm, so you're feeding warm air into the charger which will decrease the efficiency of your engine. This kit is a blanking plate for the right side of the charger to seal it off and a couple of air filters to put onto the ISV intake and oil breather pipe. The waste boost simply dumps to air afterwards which makes a mad distinctive dumping noise when you let off the throttle as well as a constant whooshing noise when not at full throttle...

As can be heard outside your local McDonald's car park any Friday/Saturday night  Look for the Saxo/Nova/Corsa crowd :)

nah, dinkus, It's a totally different noise from a turbo's dump valve... I've heard it described as sounding like the "AHH!" bit from a sneeze (ah-choo!) but a bit louder, rather than the "pppsshhhttt" from a dump valve...

If a Paxo/Slo-va/Cursor etc makes the same noise, it's got a supercharger in there somewhere... :|

Heh heh ok, I'll take your word for it, but only cos your C is so nice :D

Just seems like the priorities are all wrong...make it go quick, then if it sounds good then cool. Otherwise if you just make it sound good and you get blown away it's a bit embarrasing :D

yup, I'd agree with you there... 8) I've not got one of these kits fitted to mine purely for the reason that it's sodding loud already 'cos of the induction noise and the toothed supercharger belt so adding more noise to it would just make it annoying to drive! :|

i think some people are getting the wrong idea when it comes to the boost return kit. it wasnt done for the noise at all thats just a result of removing the return pipe of the t/body. the reason this kit was produced was to overcome the fact that it stops spent boost and engine breather shite going back into your charger we feel this is a good adition to your g60.

also i wouldn't really recomend a breather filter on your rocker cover as this could lead to you being able to smell fumes in the cabin-not good. we recomend the fitment of a catch tank for this use as the k&n filter is for use on the isv.

there is also no need for to put anything onto the outlet of your t/body as it will NEVER suck its allways blowing unless at WOT. There are quite a few threads on this subject on here/ dubforce / vortex and its conclusion seems that .... its going to be somthing all people never all agree on...

Oh I appreciate that these kits were *designed* to give better performance and the sound they make is secondary. However, asking what will make your G60 make some noise seems a bit silly. Surely you want to ask which mods are going to improve your performance, and sound a bit good too?

If you want more noise, hack a hole in the exhaust :D
