Recommended Posts

watch out for clueless dealers giving you the wrong type - they changed the cable slightly:

Part numbers for rhd manaul gearbox 2.9 VR6's

up to chasis 50-R-017000 - 536 721 555 A

chasis 50-S-003001 onwards - 536 721 555 E

What was wrong with the old one? I bought a new one recently which was stiffer than the original one, so I flung it in the cupboard for prosperity.

Nothing was wrong other than it was very stiff.

Vince at Stealth recommended the change and it is now MUCH softer - loverly.

Yeah there's a circlip behind the throttle body mount grommet. Take the circlip off, pull the cable back slightly and put the circlip back in. Slack removed, voila!

Do you know what the throttle position is on VAGCOM for fully open? - So I can check I am getting full open?

>90 degrees gives full throttle and

As a rough idea, mine is 11.6 at rest and 93 degrees at WOT.

If you take slack out of the cable, don't take too much out or you may not get your 14 degrees or less and the car won't idle properly.

Lat weekend, Vince had to adjust my throttle cable to achieve >90 degrees.

My local mechanic assures me that car can aquire full throttle with the new cable fitted. Can he know that without VAGCOM?

Whats the difference? I bought one yesterday and as its a storm, I presumed I needed the later one (didn't have the chassis # with me, or #plate).

Haven't got a clue what the differences are I'm afraid :-(

Storm production was spread throughout the '95 Model Year, so you could have a chasis code less than 50-S-003001

The difference is only at one end of the cable..

..one version has a hook fitting, and the other ....doesn't.

The other end of both cables are identical.

Can you use the later cable on the earlier car?

No, later cable will only fit later cars. But if you've bought a later cable for your Storm you should be ok, since Storms are later cars :D

Only way to be certain is cross checking the chassis number.
