High revs

Hi all,

Any ideas as to what I need to look at on my vr6 - on start up it has an annoying habit of going straight up to 2.5 revs before settling down - it runs fine other than that but it makes it look as if I don't know how to start a car!!

Maybe some air leak on the intake elbow. Throttle body might need to be cleaned out

Also check the sender to the block , the one that sends the signal to the ECU.

I take it you mean the blue temp sensor? I thought I might change it regardless so that makes me feel a bit better!

Yes that’s the one . You may as well change the other two while your at it

Check your TPS as well. Your way better than mine. One day it just decided to hesitate majorly and still haven’t figured out what’s causing it. TPS is new and disconnected.

Sounds like your cold start programme is possibly over compensating, like too much fuel or fast idle is lingering on too long.

 

Coolant temp switch, as mentioned already.

Throttle body clogged up.

Idle control valve sticking.

Air flow meter.

With the engine turned off check that you have good full throttle movement,

by operating the throttle linkage by hand from closed position to full open position, you should also here a slight clicking sound from the throttle position switch. The throttle movement should be fairly smooth & even.

 

Have you got a diagnostic scanner, or is there someone off this Forum close to where you are who has one ?

Or take it to your local garage.
