Scanning tool - quick Q's - I've not a 2x2 connector as expected?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I found my scanning port under the gear leaver but I was expecting to see the 2x2 port. I've instead got the 16 pin OBD port instead. The car is a 95 VR6 - does this mean the car is OBD2? What's the difference between the ports/OBD types?

I am looking to buy a scanning tool so unsure if this makes any difference to the tool i buy. My other car is a '13 Seat Exeo 170 which i would also like to be able to use the tool for too.

Cheers,

Matt

No, all VR6's have the 16 pin and all Corrado are OBD1, unless you've upgraded to OBD2

Most of the bluetooth OBD2 type readers won't work, fairly sure before I went OBD2 I couldn't get my ELM to work but the blue wired ebay obd2 vagcom jobbies do work with vagcom/vcds lite.

Early VR6s have the 2x2 connector - I think the change-over happened about the same time as coil packs were used instead of distributors. All are OBD1 however.

Thanks guys. I need to now find a suitable scanning tool, I think i just want to read codes and not worried about changing settings. More research to do!
