Scott 0 Posted August 4, 2004 I am trying help a mate out by doing some jobs on his Escort and wondering if there are any specialist Ford Dealers... We have GSF / ECP, etc and wondered if FORD's have something similar? I need: 4 new shocks Two wishbones Service parts. Anyone know? Cheers Scott
Supercharged 2 Posted August 4, 2004 I'd just say Ford dealer mate - My mate owns a garage and mainly works on Fords and he says its cheaper to go to them than anywhere else considering they keep good stocks and deliver to him for free etc...
Geo 0 Posted August 4, 2004 Ford dealer is very competitive price wise in my experience. I had a mondeo for 2 years and got all parts for it from the dealer. The wishbones will be pricey though, although you shouldn't need to buy them complete. You can get the rubber bushings for them for a couple of quid each from the dealer and get them pressed into the old wishbones. Don't buy non-genuine wishones or bushings they are absolute shite. The car won't drive properly with them at all.
Scott 0 Posted August 4, 2004 Thanks guys. I have heard about the wishbones but pressing the bushes in are a pain in the butt hence was going to buy new ones..... Partco have quoted me £36+VAT per side.... The problem at the moment is that the Escort was my old car and I sold it to a good friend a few months ago - he loves it but recently the handling in the wet has been diabolical so he asked if I could help... We have changed the tyres so they are all the same make and lots of tread on... it still slides way too much for his liking and does feel very twitchy in the wet.... So I then remembered on the last MOT the MOT guy gave me an advisory on the wishbone bushes - specifically the passenger side so thought would do both! I have also noticed the front shocks seem a little worn so thought would replace all four shocks too... With the hope after spending all of my mates money that it will fix the problem!!!
Henny 0 Posted August 4, 2004 On Escorts and Fiestas, you're better off buying genuine wishbones complete with the bushes, when the bushes go, it damages the housing, so if you try and use new bushes in old arms, they still slop about everywhere and wear out in a matter of months... Shocks aren't too expensive from the dealer either IIRC, and most servicing parts are available from any local motor factors... 8) (No, I've never owned a Ford, ;) My best mate's a mechanic who often swears about Escort and Fiesta wishbones and how many of the F$%~ing things he's done that week when we go out on a Thursday night for a pre-weekend beer!  )
dr_mat 0 Posted August 4, 2004 Wouldn't it be great if we could say "why not buy the stuff from the VW dealer, cos they're pretty competitive and good at carrying stock"?

Scott 0 Posted August 4, 2004 lol. Well wishbones and shocks are coming from the main dealer then.... might as well get service parts at same time... Is it a difficult job to do wishbones / shocks on a FORD? What sort of money am I looking at... he has given me £350 to get the wishbones / shocks and servicing done.... Geo 0 Posted August 4, 2004 It's a straightforward job, even more so if you are doing the shocks at the same time. Drop the balljoints, then take out the shocks, tie up the hubs out of your way and you'll have plenty of room to take out and refit the wishbones. Bolster 0 Posted August 4, 2004 I Just found out on another thread that I can get the same part from Ford (in this case an oil pressure regulator housing for a VR6) for a third of the price that I can get it from VW. ain't that just typical.
Scott 0 Posted August 4, 2004 Nice one lads.... a day job then
MikeVR6 0 Posted August 4, 2004 Should we combine a list of parts common between the Ford and VW VR6 parts bin? Or is it generally just ALL VR6 engine bits, since the Sharan and Galaxy are the same vehicle (nearly)
