Knocking sound VR6

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I have this wierd knocking sound coming from my left side wheel.

The sound comes when i turn left or right gear 1 and it stops when i press the clutch down.

I have replace the clutch and release bearing 2 years ago.

I have replace left driveshaft, wheel bearing left side and top mount

Today i check right side and i cant hear any bad from wheel bearing or dirveshaft.

I  used this Wheel bearing SKF VKBA 1491 - Driveshaft VKJC 1037 - Top mount Powerflex PFF85-239

Now i have no idea what the issue is  mabye some gearbox problem?  Here comes 2 videos this is from today.

If you lift each side and spin the wheel by hand you might be able to identify the source.

Jack the car up, put the steering on full lock left / right and push / pull on the CVs.

Also look for signs of any interference marks where components could be touching

Update.

Changed right driveshaft today, the old one fall in to pieces when it got removed 🙈

I still have some knocking sound, I found out left driveshaft have some play when i push it out and in. The left shaft is new. Should that be any play?

Push in towards the gearbox, pull out towards the hub? Yes, the shaft has to lengthen and contract as the suspension elongates and compresses. The distance between the gearbox and hub varies in use

I dont see it pull out towards the hub, it feels more on the inner cv/gearbox moves. When i push it i have a play for like 5mm, i dont have any play on the right side.

I think to remove the shaft tomorrow and check it out.

It could still be faulty, just in / out is not a sign of a faulty joint

Abs ring is new, there is 2 different type of sensor. The right looks more older, this one is aluminum type

I’d try a new sensors, I’m not sure of part numbers though, I’ve not had to do this.
If you've hade a lot of vibrations something could of broke or come loose.

That sensor in your hand is for earlier Corrado’s and has the wire attached to it that goes through the wings. Later ones had the sensor that you show from ecs that has a separate wire from the sensor and you plug it in on the hub. Your car should be fitted with the same type though so I don’t know why you have both types. What year is your car
