Who's out in their Corrado

Recommended Posts

Well it's a nice weekend and I have no other work to do. Shifted the mk2 golf out the way and am out in Karmann.

Anyone else bothered with the hassle of getting out in the corrado? It is worth it still πŸ˜‡

Had this week off work so got it out the garage, cleaned and waxed it ready. Planning to take it off SORN Monday so it’ll piss it down the next month!

Nope! Despite it being mot'd and insured, the rough running is still not cured and it's  driving me nuts.

I'm seriously considering calling it quits and buying an older Cayman for a Sunday car.

Pull plug leads off one by one, if you find one makes little difference to the idle you’ve located the bad cylinder (do all 6 even if you’re lucky with the first one).

plug

lead

Injector

compression - cylinder or valve

you wouldn’t be the first to transpose two plug leads

Mate of mine just bought a mondeo st220 (he had one before, regrets selling it), flatbed dropped it off Saturday 1pm, rough idle, seller couldn’t sort it, owned the car for 10 years, had the plenum removed and new plugs PITA job on the rear bank on these.

mate did due diligence, pushed a lead fully home and alls good- lead had pushed up the rubber cap.

Thanks Dox, thankfully I only have four plugs to worry about πŸ˜‰

It is only rough running when warm. If I unplug the water temp sensor it runs fine on the open circuit, when up at temp.

Have replaced water temp sensor and lambda sensor and it is still the same.

I am presuming now things like leads and rotor, dizzy cap etc are all good as it does run well and is more an ecu based issue (either ecu itself, or what the ecu controls on the basis of the lambda and temp readings)

Wondering if fifth injector is stuck open as unplugging it makes no difference when running rough as I suspect it is overfuelling not running lean.

It's a ballache!

I don’t know 16vs tbh.

from cold it will run ignoring lambda until a set temp, I’d be looking for an air leak.

maybe drop Crasher a pm? He knows 16v engines and there issues

Worth checking the WUR to see if that does shut off. I have an 8v mk2 kjetronic and club GTi has a wealth of info on there
