SteveM16v 0 Posted August 12, 2004 Anyone know how to stop my windows rattling when open. They are fine as long as they are fully down. They also judder as they go down. Are they easy to correct? Thanks
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 12, 2004 At what height to they rattle? 1/4 of the way down is common and also when fully down you can get a glassy clonk when closing the door. There's a few things it could be. Worn outer weather strip not pressing on the glass firmly enough Worn or incorrectly fitted inner seal, again, not pressing the glass properly The rubber guide on the front channel might have come off it's steel support. If you grab the glass at any point in it's travel and it wobbles, you need to address the above. K
Andy Brookes 0 Posted August 12, 2004 My drivers side window has the rear plastic guide missing, it should be glued to the glass but is no where to be seen. I have had a look on etka and the part is not availiable seperatly from the glass. Anyone got any glues on where to get one? Without the plastic guide it rattles in most positions except for the full up position.
DanA 0 Posted August 12, 2004 Both mine rattle too unless they are fully up. very annoying!
Rpmayne 0 Posted August 13, 2004 So do mine, although turning the stereo up seems to sort the problem. Can't really be arsed to fix it, like the sunroof intermittently working, and the rear spoiler, and the heater switch, and the rear view mirror fell off (blamed that on autoglass).. Just don't use them anymore. Good old Corrado, if only everything was as reliable as a... By the way, 190 merc, E-reg, 120,000. Not a sound, solid as a rock. Always thought there wasn't much between BMW, Merc and VW in the build department, very very wrong.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 13, 2004 Merc and BMWs were very tough in the 80s, but they're not built so well now though. It's 90% down to care and maintenance. I've heard 190Es that rattle more than Peugeots and I've heard Peugeots rattle less than a BMW......
kvwloon 0 Posted August 13, 2004 Yep, Clarkson keeps having a pop at Mercedes crap build quality these days I notice. Things 'aint what they used to be! I'm sticking with the old school of motoring.
dinkus 10 Posted August 13, 2004 My windows rattle slightly when down (i.e. they will rattle more in time), the sunroof rattles and doesn't work and the exhaust rattles at certain engine revs. But the windows seem fairly easy to fix, I'll see if they still rattle when they come back from the bodyshop. The sunroof is a pig to fix, but I'm gonna have it all out at some point and the exhaust should be fairly easy to fix too. It's just a case of giving it some TLC. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 13, 2004 The sunroof isn't as bad a job as you think mate.... I've got a complete sunroof assembly sitting at home awaiting new water channel guides and then the whole lot will be swapped over. It's handy to have a spare sunroof subframe as you can rebuild it with all new cables and guides and get loads of grease into it. The windows are easy to sort once the cards and weatherproof membranes are off.
