Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 16, 2004 Stealth Racing is the usual answer. A 4 hour trip for you but I've yet to see anyone leave their premises dissatisfied. They are very busy at the moment though.
dr_mat 0 Posted August 16, 2004 You *are* losing oil if it's on the plugs, but it's probably not enough to be noticeable on the dipstick. It's a question of degrees of wear.. The question is - do you get any blue smoke out the back? Agreed on Stealth - they are good and VERY busy right now - they're booking for about 6-8 weeks time! dinkus 10 Posted August 16, 2004 Agreed on Stealth - they are good and VERY busy right now - they're booking for about 6-8 weeks time! I can vouch for that, I booked my C in today for some work and the earliest they could do was 6th OCTOBER! They're definitely worth the wait though :D
mariovr6 0 Posted August 16, 2004 the plug doesnt have any oil on it? its more a matt black , it was ones shiny black but even then it wasnt oily?? aslo the is no blue smoke not any smoke really!!! bad point are... 1.humm from fuel pump as load as the engine at times! 2.nasty cat smell( burning matches ) not rotten eggs never had that in this car! 3.maybe a slight lose in power at times?? donno but im sure it should be faster! 4.MPG around 20 to29 around busy london! average is 22.5 on a normal day where most of traffic is just waiting at front of red lights! thats it really!!!! i spoke to stleath earlier today they really seem to know there stuff and were very helpful, but they did say around 2400 for a rebuild n i cant really afford that n not sure if its worth it
Henny 0 Posted August 16, 2004 this actually sounds like you have an injector which has stuck open on cylinder 1. The matt blackness sounds to me like being carbon caused by inefficient burning of the fuel (ie it's running stupidly rich 'cos it's just throwing fuel in to that cylinder) and the nasty smell is 'cos you are throwing petrol down the exhaust and into the cat... Definately worth getting someone to flow test your injectors IMHO... 8)
mariovr6 0 Posted August 16, 2004 see some people say it could be the injector ( the people who dont do rebuilds ) but if i ask someone who does rebuilds they say it need a rebuild?? i think a test is the only way!!! o yeah its plugs 6 thats black I HOPE ITS JUST THE INJECTOR!!! (probably) the nature of the beast is no-one really understands why it happens - perhaps it's to do with the end cylinders having poorer cooling, who knows? dr_mat 0 Posted August 16, 2004 I believe it's more to do with the orientation of the steering wheel relative to the queen's left thumb during overtaking manoeuvres on a tuesday in wales.

dr_mat 0 Posted August 16, 2004 Or was I thinking about the probability of something not breaking on your corrado on a given day? ;)
mariovr6 0 Posted August 16, 2004 well im sure its slower then it should be!!
mariovr6 0 Posted August 17, 2004 if the problem is the injector any idea of the price? how much is vag-com and would it help me with this problem?
dr_mat 0 Posted August 17, 2004 I'm not sure if the ECU can tell if an injector is stuck open, unless it's an electrical short-out that's causing the injector to stay on, so I doubt VAG-COM will help. You simply have to get someone to pull the injector out and run the engine with it firing into a fuel container and watch... Well that's the easy way, anyway. Alternatively get to a Bosch fuel injection specialist and they can ultrasonically clean and test all six for a couple of hundred quid, or so I'm told. Henny 0 Posted August 17, 2004 I've always tested injectors by the good old "disconnect spark plugs / coil, pull out an injector and put it in a jamjar while cranking the engine for 20seconds" method... Do this on all 4 (6 in your case!) injectors and see if one it completely different from the rest... 8) Kinda crude but quite effective... 8) (bit like me! :D )
mariovr6 0 Posted August 17, 2004 ive got a bosch place right on my road BUT last time i went there they left ht lead 1 off n told me my car had major problems??? no surprise when they do that to it
Gman 0 Posted August 18, 2004 If it is chucking unburnt fuel down the zorst then i would avoid usign the car as you might start a cat fire. Hennys way of checking is a good one tho. G
mariovr6 0 Posted August 18, 2004 it only makes the cat smell when its pushed to go fast so still think it could be connected to the black plug?
dr_mat 0 Posted August 18, 2004 I'm like you, mariovr6, I'd like everything to be diagnosable from the descriptions I put on the forum.. Unfortunately I don't think we're getting anywhere, and you're just going to have to get someone to look at the car. Evidence from the whole thread points at an injector problem, so I'd start from there if I were you. Booking in for an engine rebuild seems a little excessive at the moment - best to work on everything else first... :)
