craigowl 0 Posted August 28, 2004 August's "Car Mechanics" (page 28) has a paragraph or two about the catastrophic failure of the timing chain on one of these cars at just over 90k miles. The mag. says they will be covering the rectification of the problem in another issue.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 29, 2004 Yeah....the rectification is to fit the MK4 12V solid tensioner parts.... 8) Good for 250K at least.....
craigowl 0 Posted August 29, 2004 Apologies if its a daft question, kev, but are those "Ford" parts suitable for use on a Corrado VR6? Probably cheaper than VW?

tonytiger 0 Posted November 21, 2004 Part 1 of the article is in this months mag (december issue). Is the work involved exactly the same as the 2.9 or are there any differences (especially due to fitment in a Ford) ?
dr_mat 0 Posted November 21, 2004 The work required is the same, exactly, between the two cars. The galaxy is little more than rebadged, it's basically a VW. Don't think anyone ever asked Ford how much the timing chain parts are for the VR6, so can't compare, but tbh the bulk of the bill is labour, the parts cost is pretty small.
