bl00dy t0ssing sunroof!!!!!

Just been fitting my new (old) windscreen lower trims (thanks Dan Steele) and thought I would do a little maintance on the sunroof while I was tinkering.

 

The sunroof had been working fine, but I thought I would grease it up as it looked a bit dry in there, I use some white spray grease......not so sure that was the right thing to use.....as I closed it to work the grease in, clunk, scatching noise...noooooooo. Yep you guessed it, the passenger side stuck and I know have missing paint work on that side of the sunroof. I knew it had to happen one day.

 

So as a warning if my theory is true, dont use white grease???

White grease should be fine - which bits did you lube though???

both tracks, nothing else. All I can think is that the extra friction just tilted it over the edge, must have been waiting to go!

white grease is fine for hinges and the like so that shouldn't have been the cause maybe it was just a pure coincidence!! :(

Well, the bits of the tracks that the rear-most parts slide in are now easy to access with the roof in.

 

Maybe with the front elements sliding smoothly, the lack of lube on the rear-most parts tipped it over the edge...

I can't understand it mate.... there was no slack in your water plate guide. Normally when tilted, you would get a couple of mill vertical play if the guide was worn, but yours was solid. Put some masking tape on the roof and slide it back again just to see if it was a one off?

 

I would use Castrol LM grease in there rather than white grease to be honest.
