GIXXERUK 0 Posted September 17, 2004 getting some bodywork done next week do i 1 remove the side protectors ? 2 colour code the handles or any other advice would be welcome cheers paul
dubbprince 0 Posted September 17, 2004 yes to the 'removing the side rub strips'...but i'd look into getting some mk5 polo ones or similar to stop those shopping trolley dents! they may need cutting, although i'm not sure if any newer vw rub stripes, say off the bora could fit? colour code them too. The handles...a tough one, they look good...but they may wear the paint eventually as you use them a lot. Still look really good. :| Sanj.
chrishill 0 Posted September 17, 2004 I had my rub strips taken off when the car was resprayed over a year ago, as yet I've suffered no dents in carparks! (kiss of death, my doors now going to 'aquire' hundreds :() one thing you have to watch is the paint inderneith wont have faded where as the 'exposed' paint may have done. not sure if its an issue on darker colours, but some t-cut should help you blend it so long as its not too bad. door handles - got mine colour coded and sanj is right, they're prone to wear more than any other part because you use them so much. the passenger side one on mine has a chip out of the paint where someone wearing a ring caught it as they were getting in  looks LOADS better coded though. I had my washer jets done and the rear numberplate surround which some people like, others dont.

Louie Lungbubble 0 Posted September 17, 2004 Yeah, liking them myself. I inherited an old set of Hockenheims on mine which I like, but they're older than the dinosaurs. Your's have got that similar look, but a lot 'slicker' (if that's a word) and more modern. What are they Paul?

CazzaVR 0 Posted September 18, 2004 Hmmm... would think it would look great with either. You could try the eyebrow bit on it's own first to see how it looks

CazzaVR 0 Posted September 19, 2004 Sorry mate, I was a bit unclear... meant try painting the eyebrow bit first- someone else has suggested this in the other thread too :)
