Jim 2 Posted September 18, 2004 Engine history is (roughly) 1988 - 1992 : 1.8 G60 and 1.8 16v available 1992 - 1994 : 2.0 16v, 2.9 VR6 available 1994 - 1995 : 2.0 8v, 2.0 16v, 2.9 VR6 available Though not sure if the 8v was only available for one year or two... but.. thats roughly it anyway :)
Campaign 0 Posted September 18, 2004 Very few 2.0ls were 8v - only the last of the last (VW trying to get rid of shells!)

TomB 0 Posted September 18, 2004 IIRC wasn't the Golf only a 1.8l 16v? I have to say that I had a lot of respect for the 2.0l valver engine, not much power under 3k rpm, but over that (and certainly over 4k) it really started to sing. If you took it up to about 5.5K- 6K rpm, then it dropped right into the sweet spot when you shifted up.... Had a 2-stage throttle that took a bit of getting used to as well, but was very handy for not draining the fuel tank when going round town. Cheers, Tom
GIXXERUK 0 Posted September 18, 2004 mk3 had a 2.0 16v mk2 had the 1.8 16v, the mk2 ended an era imo for the golfs
TomB 0 Posted September 18, 2004 Absolutely. The MK3 Golf onwards is a bit like the movies Highlander 2 & Highlander 3... Sorry, what am I talking about, there can be only one
vr6storm 0 Posted September 18, 2004 pity the pic is of a 1.8 16v not the 2.0 16v they recommend  IIRC the 2.0 16v in the C is the Audi 16v........whereas the 2.0 16v found in the mk3 Golf GTI 16v is the ABF VW Engine
GIXXERUK 0 Posted September 18, 2004 did they do the 1.8 16v on an L reg ?
vr6storm 0 Posted September 18, 2004 did they do the 1.8 16v on an L reg ? not officially......but there's always the chance there might be 1 or 2 kicking about...........if there was a L-reg 1.8 16v then 99.9% it will have the early interior
