in the rear passenger footwell? any ideas?

 

seems to hav gone now even though we hav had more heavy rain...

 

havnt left any bottles there... just smelt like water and wasnt damp in any other footwells!?

 

jus possible window or door wasnt shut properly and let some rain in?

 

jus enquiring incase it returns...!

I had problem of rear side window leaking on it's seals. Only did it in light rain/drizzle and never in heavy rain for some reason. Had RAC autowindscreens remove and reseal and that cured it. Worth a check, you just need to pull trim panel off and see if it is wet in there.

right....afew things to check..... as i just had this.

 

rear 1/4 glass seal - remove card and seat pad, feel for dampness in foam behind the card.

 

front door membrain - remove card, look for water marks in card, and any holes/splits in the membrain.

 

most probable cause (imho) windscreen blower inlet on bulk head - this was what was leaking on mine. This also unfortunately means that almost all the sound proofing in the passenger side will be wet at best, or like mine, starting to rot. to check this, remove the sill plate bit that holds down the edge of the carpet, and as far front as poss, put your finger in to feel under the carpet (there is a tar like layer on top of the sound protection, so the water cant soak up to the carpet at the front). If this is al wet, then you need to practically strip that side of the car, bar the dash to get the sound protection out to dry. Have a nose clip handy as mine was starting to rot, and the smell nearly knocked me out when i first peeled the sound protection back! to fix the actual prob, i just gave both metal sealing face a clean on the bulk head, and used a load of instant gasket! Its sorted now, but i still havent put the passenger carpet back down..... which reminds me.... i better chase darren for sound padding b4 u do! :lol:

 

The final options are not very likely... these are, split rear window washer supply, or missing gater for the handbreak cable.

Definitely get those carpets up and the sound-proofing out to dry, it can go this awful green moldy colour otherwise, and it smells soooooo bad :gag: The actual top layer of carpet can feel dry, but underneath it can be swimming.

 

Do you park on a slope? I had a rear footwell flooding once, but it was because i parked on a slope and the water came in from the front wing, trickled back along the door edge and then into the rear footwell. Had me stumped for ages.

LOL - that green choking emoticon pretty much sums up the smell, as my old Rado had the same problem thanks to an ill fitted windscreen - water was dripping down the back of the dash, all over the fusebox (no, really) and giving me a swimming pool in my car every time it rained. When I finally traced the fault and had the screen replaced, the under carpet stuff was gross - I lifed up the carpets and had to get the HELL out of the car as the smell was enough to make you gag.

lol... cheers guys - i had a leaky old fiesta track car that was put back on road (i kno i kno... it was a fun cheap lil go cart tho...) had a dodgy window seal and i stripped all carpet out and the undercarpet sound deadening stuff turned to slime... :pukeleft:
