emmafwa 0 Posted September 27, 2004 Im just getting in to my mechanics so I need all the help I can get! I was changing my spark plugs at the weekend and they were sitting in oil, what does this mean? Is it just the gasget that needs replacing or is it more serious??? :? Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 27, 2004 Welcome to the forum! Oil on the plug threads or on the electrodes themselves? If the former, probably due to the middle section of the rocker cover gasket leaking which has dripped down into the plug recesses. Quite common. If the latter, that spells trouble as the engine is actually burning oil.
emmafwa 0 Posted September 27, 2004 There was so much it came up to the electrodes on two of them, but only covered the threads on the other two. I have a bit of an oil leak as well so I gave it a new fillter and replaced the washer on the sump bolt thingy but its still leaking????

Rpmayne 0 Posted September 28, 2004 Up to the electode? Do you mean the plugs were sitting in pools of oil which covered the connection to the leads? Can't see how oil would come from the engine, pass up through the threads and sit ontop. Probably rocker cover gasket as kev says.
dr_mat 0 Posted September 28, 2004 Don't forget as soon as you pull the plug out, it'll dribble down onto the electrodes...
