Hold first gear for 2 miles!?!

The above was in the gearbox oil change instructions in the latest Sprinter to enable the oil to get into the syncro's...

 

2 miles tho! :shock: - Is it really neccessary??

Sounds plausible, luckily living out in the country plenty of roads to do this on. Cant see myself attempting this though

There is plenty of oil left on the gears and synchros from the previous oil. A dry box maybe, but can you see VW driving all their cars 2 miles in 1st gear straight from the production line?

I agree with Kev, if this was so important there would be practises put in place years ago to ensure this procedure is carried out.

Surely if it's a case of drain & refill - oil will already be in the synchros ??
