  1. That means its had the re-call, but the one on the right as you look from the front is the inlet, and the left is the outlet. If the pipe between is hot and the two into the bulkhead and matrix are cooler, then its bypassing and not feeding hot water for the blower to...........blow.

Your matrix may need replacing at that point unless as Cressa has said, and either your slider isn't working properly (much less common failure than the later dial type), or the foam inside the heater box where the flap is has broken down and both hot and cold air are being blown through.

Is it cold or just warm, and does it cool when driving but warm up when stationary?

It's seems that the matrix pipes going through the bulk head are not really getting hot does this mean I need to replace the matrix? Not a job iamb looking forward to so tiring to make sure before I start. Cheers

  2. Yes checked the top and bottom rad pipes and seem to be working correctly, it is a 1990 16v have flushed the matrix out when I had the car in bits and replaced the stat.do you know which is the bypass valve one is plastic and the other is metal on the pipes going through the bulkhead if that makes sense.

  3. Check if they're the same length as the originals, if they're longer, that could be the issue. As the rad heats up and expands, something has to give.

Exactly what I was thinking going to have to hunt around the garage for the old ones.

  4. Sometimes if the mounting rubbers are missing or the mounts are overtightened, it can crack the rad.

Sounds like that's what I've done, did replace brackets with the stainless steel ones.

  5. So had a look into the problem and it seems the leak is coming from the top of the rad where the fixing bracket slides into the top of the rad, took the bracket off and coolant is ****ing out strange any body ever had this? Looks like it's a new rad.

  6. Help needed, can anyone tell me why after having all the coolant system apart and replacing the stat all hoses I can't seem to stop it leaking from the small hose which runs from the top of the rad back to the expansion tank?

    It's 1.8 16v.

  7. I believe that when the water expands from the heat that is the tube that takes the excess back to the expansion tank to maintain correct pressure. Does it leak when hot and cold or hot only?

Only when hot and not very much, have replaced jubilee clips so will give it a test tomorrow.

Only just got it back on the road so finding lots of little problems.

  8. 102 for oil is fine. That's normal.

Could you take a picture of the leak that you mean? The radiator system should be completely sealed - there should be no leaks anywhere so if you're actually seeing coolant leaking out then there's a problem :)

It's the pipe that runs from the filler tank to the top of the radiator, do you know if water should be constantly running through this pipe or is it an over flow. Sorry no very littl about the coolant system. Going to test again as have replaced the jubilee clip and pipe.

  9. Another question from an inexperienced wannabe, still think I am having coolant problem noticed today that there is a slight coolant leak coming from the small pipe at the top of the rad, should water even be running through there not sure how it all works to be honest. Any advice much appreciated.

  10. Thanks guys as I said probably just looking for problems after so long laid up, oil temp rose to 102 so that sounds ok and not using coolant as far as I can tell will keep an eye on it. Need to spend more money today had to get green flag out to give me a jump start right on sidmouth sea front, lots of what's the matter with that old sirocco.

  11. Maybe a little paranoid but after getting the 16v moted today and driving around a bit it seems to me to be running hot, Over the last few mouths I have replaced flushed and replaced all hoses and coolant my question is how hot should it run and how long after use should it stay hot?

  12. After a long and expensive slog managed to get my 1.8 16v through its mot with no advisories thanks to all who helped with advise and parts, going to enjoy over the summer and tackle the body work over the winter.:thumbleft:

  13. I forgot to ask, What side needed mate?

Reason i'm asking is that they are handed and in my experience, as soon as you try and remove them or touch the plastic locating components (made from the same, crap brittle plastic as the headlamp adjusters..)they fall apart.

Best to fit the whole adjuster with screw already in place.

I sent you a few photos a couple of hours back, let me know if they go theough.

Thanks got pics that looks right, need left passenger side.

  14. I take it you didn't get the photos i sent down 4 days ago??

Just to be sure, i take it you need the early type foglamp adjusment screw?

    I'll resend you the photos.

    Cheers-Andrew.

Can't seem to find any email, yes early type. Thanks
