  1. Hi Guys, I'm back.. pleased to report the stalling has not recurred, three weeks and counting :D ... but have noticed new potential problem. Am planning on going to see Vince at Stealth in near future to get car checked out properly anyway as I am sure you guys are right and I neen to get camber, tracking checked as there is definitely something funky going on with the front end. And having read some of the threads about people losing it on roundabouts, I am a little nervous! :? Anyway, new sound.. hard to describe but I will have a go.. only been noticing since hot weather and with windows wide open.. and slight deviation here, but do you guys keep turning music off to listen to a) engine! (cos it does sound nice!) and b) for any untoward sounds?! Anyway... Slowing down, downshift, then just letting car coast (foot on clutch) towards stop in traffic, there is this ratchety sound, I can only describe it as the sound when you coast on a bicycle and the chain is just ratcheting around by itself.. It sounds like it is coming from front offside wheel (windows being open)? Also noticed slight squealing coming from same wheel when going slowly in gear (on my MR2 this was diagnosed as seized caliper). As always, being paranoid! But any suggestions welcome.. Thank you Domi
  2. HI Guys Kind of regretting not coming to this meet as I am in the area, but was worried you would not appreciate a female corrado enthusiast joining your ranks. Having seen the pics, wish I had shown up anyway. What I would like to know is how someone came by the plate VR6 070? Thought you couldn't get a plate with a letter later than your reg? Sorry if this is obvious to you.. I am female after all?!
  3. Hi Folks Sorry, not been on for a couple of days cos had auditors in at work, so knackered! But, good guess Kevhaywire, pretty much spot on, around £500! And I envy you PhatVR6, I don't have the connections you do and I have neither the time nor the knowledge to work on my car myself (wish I had both!! :( ) Storm2, I don't recall losing revs when accelerating, it was more when I was downshifting at low speed, or stopping, revs would drop and then just die... Anyway, it is still running fine, I am pleased to report :D . I am planning a run up to Stealth to get it checked over generally and will ask Vince to check tracking and camber then. Feel there is something not quite right in the steering, tracking, suspension area. Did mention to the mechanic who came to look at it with me, but he did not pick up on anything. Sometimes wonder if I am over sensitive to these things!? Two more things, firstly, recall seeing somewhere on forum about smell of unburnt fuel, have been smelling fuel since I got car back (or am I just imagining it?) what was the general consensus on this? And secondly, oil temp.. someone said about not booting the car till 80 degrees, mine seems to fluctuate fairly dramatically, takes a while to reach 80, then will increase dramatically (up to 100+), then drop back down to 70 or even below.. is this normal? And is it bad to drive it hard anytime it drops below 80? That seems cruel, this car wants to be driven! Domi
  4. New fuel pump and coil pack seems to have fixed stalling problem! Picked my car up Fri night, but didn't want to report back until I had been able to give it a couple of days and a couple of good runs.. the drive back from High Wycombe barely warmed it up! But went for a run up Henley Fairmile and around Peppard on Saturday and it was great :D Apparently, their top technician at Rye Mill worked on it and I have to say I am impressed.. but, bit worried cos have read on here where stalling problems seem fixed and then come back after a couple of weeks so will keep you posted. For now however, Rye Mill get my vote as main dealers. However (always a however!), I noticed today when getting on bypass, that as I wound up through second to third, pushing it quite hard as was warmed up, had quite a noticeable wobble in steering wheel, like it was trying to pull to the right as I was accelerating?! Anyone else experienced this? Maybe it is just that I have been used to the MR2's light steering as the Corrado is quite a bit heavier, and maybe I just need to hang on to it more? Anyway on the whole I am very pleased as it seems to be running better than when I first test drove it and the stalling has stopped and I have a nice steady idle now! Domi Happy Corrado Owner :)
  5. Well, I think the RX8 is pretty and the 350Z is sexy, but having said that, the thing I love about the Corrado is that while it has a sleek shape, and I think it is a beautiful machine, it hides its true ability under a comparitively understated exterior. I like to describe it to friends/family who are unfamiliar with the breed as a tiger in cat's clothing!
  6. Ah.. Well, like mentioned before, may still make the run to Stealth in the near future. Pity my bro-in-law has an aversion to Corrados, he is a mechanic with his own workshop in Maidenhead! He is strictly a japanese car man! Warned me off getting Corrado to no end (but did I listen? No, and he is not best pleased, but he doesn't have to drive it or even work on it for that matter, tho, sigh, would make life so much easier if he would!) Good news on the warranty side though! But I may be picking your brains for independent specialists if need be in future, what with you being in the same area as I :) Thanks for all the feedback!
  7. Great.. that's encouraging! Hadn't even considered that scenario! And, no I know, not cheap at all! Oh well, guess I will see how it runs when I get it back and if not good, wont be going back to them! Good to know bout Ridgeway though, I had considered going there, but chose Rye Mill cos closer. Where, if you don't mind me asking, do you take yours? Or are you one those gifted people who can work on their own cars? Darn, I knew finance was the wrong career path for me! I like cars, what was I thinking, should have become a mechanic (lol)!
  8. I am beginning to wonder if I should be shelling out for a new coil pack and fuel pump after reading all this!? Will my VR6 still be stalling I wonder? And I still don't have it back! Was supposed to be today, but when I called at five it was still in a million pieces at the garage apparently! I hope they know what they are doing :( Dr Mat, you never picked up the thread on where I took it in the end, know anything about Rye Mill in High Wycombe? And Benson, Will let you know how it is running when (if?) I get it back. Must say though, have been driving the MR2 for the last couple of days (haven't sold it yet) and while it doesn't quite have the grunt and excitement of the Corrado, it is a joy to drive! Such an effortless comfortable ride by comparison, but by the time I got home, was getting a little bored to be honest and really miss the Corrado!
  9. I work in Reading (well just outside at Thames Valley Park), live closer to High Wycombe so it has gone to Rye Mill in Hi Wy. Hope they are good (fingers crossed!) Mine is M Reg Aqua Blue, but I have only had it three weeks! Will keep eye out for you too !
  10. Thanks vr6storm, but what would that have to do with the stalling? Or do you think it is just another problem they picked up on the VAG-COM? Guess I should have asked them really, it is just that they mentioned it in conjunction with the fuel pump so I assumed it was related. And btw, what is with the immobiliser on the steering column, I noticed it, but don't see how it would work, not that it matters since it is equipped with separate alarm/immob, but curious all the same.
  11. Hiya Kevhaywire, Yes, can imagine yours will be somewhat more expensive, saw on another post that yours is at Stealth (right?). I wanted to take mine to Vince, but driving it with stalling problem from Reading to somewhere in Warwickshire sounded like a nightmare! So decided I will get this problem seen to locally and then take a run up in the not too distant future to let him have a look at it and see if everything else is ok on it. Are you local to Stealth, or do you all drive from all over the country to go see there? So what is this "coil" they want to replace, I am sure I read somewhere else in here that they don't usually need replacing? The fuel pump sounds right, but do you think coil is likely too? I am just trying to establish if I should question anything, in the hopes that if I seem somewhat knowledgeable they will be less likely to take advantage and fix, change stuff that does not need changing. As always, thanks for your advice! :)
  12. Hi Guys Can't find my original post to add to?! Anyway, took to a VW garage and they have diagnosed (alledgedly) as coil and fuel pump problem. It was getting very bad and as agreed by all, quite dangerous when it stalls and the power steering goes! Going to be quite expensive! But am hoping will be a happy Corrado at the end of it! Just hope they are not ripping me off, disadvantage or being female and not engine savvy. :( Anyway, thanks for all your advice and will let you know how it is running when I get it back. Missing it already! Domi

    VR6, quirky or trouble?

Thanks VR6Storm! I will check out the fuses, and I will get it checked on a VAG-COM. I am also thinking I might take it for a run up to Stealth Racing and ask Vince to have a look at it, what do you think?

    VR6, quirky or trouble?

WTF!!! Now I have stalling! I am beginning to think my car is not a happy Corrado! It stalled on me twice tonight. First time turning off main road, as I slowed to turn a corner, was downshifting to second, revs dropped and it just died, mid turn! Power steering went, I looked down, batt light on, threw it into neutral restarted and carried on. Then on by-pass, had to slow for roundabout, same scenario, went to downshift, approaching roundabout, revs fell, died. Luckily, I again threw it into neutral while cruising, restarted and managed to get round roundabout. Scary! and dangerous! What is going on? Help!! Am going to take other car (haven't sold my MR2 yet, as it turns out, luckily) into work tomorrow and call VW and take it in Sat if poss. Do you have to be a mechanic to run one of these? I want to enjoy my VR6, so far it is a rollercoaster of, I love this car and omg what have I bought?!!!

    VR6, quirky or trouble?

Hmm, ok well have found the mfa! Should have read the manual huh!? Now have new concern! Oil temp does not seem to go much above 60 degrees, occasionally 70! Is this a problem? I can't stay below 3K rpm indefinitely!!! Aarghh.. think I am going to have to get it on a vag com asap! And ABS light has come on again a couple of times, usually right after I have braked. Thanks for all you input!
