shed is tidied so will dig into the boxes for those bumper brackets for you - do you mean the kinda 8 inch slanted plastic things will a locator each end?
i also dug out the facia from the workshop - part number 536858203
part number comes back as a corrado part but i dont recall my early having any locations for the bottom pins - hmmmm - though it did have the tape cassette holder in the console & i didnt think to look when removing to do the matrix
Im all good now cheers mate Ferry sorted me out.
Yes that panel is exactly the same as mine and fits fine in my 1990 car chap. - 536 is rhd car as well.
-
I can see that Corrado grave yard is a complete waste of time- Waited three weeks for a set of tow covers and x2 a pillar grommets - just did a paypal claim as kept getting fobbed off- couldn't get a tracking number out of him and asked twice so gave up in the end .
-
Worked my way to the the rear now very clean and also had the Kamei sills off- serious clean car - found just one rust spot that I wire wheeled, will need a small weld on the infamous rear arch lip - as you can see the the sill is fine just need a simple lip welding on which I got quoted £80- saved in the nick of time- other side is solid. gone round the whole car now and used clear bilt hamber UC for a factory look.top up wax. Its a cracking unrestored car .
Also got myself a GTI tax disc.

I've been getting around to sorting my bonnet cable out, I've previously had a workaround in place using two cables to pull the springs to release it, but I want to get the handle working again. I can't seem to get it working where both arms release correctly, the striker pins are set to 57mm as per guides I've seen, I was missing the Bowden sheath that sits between the two anchor points so I've made one up to fit the length, but it seems like the cable just isn't long enough to release both arms, the passengers side just doesn't quite fully pull enough to release the striker.
I suspect over the years I am missing something, does anyone have any information/pictures of their bonnet cable system I can look at, I'm using a Audi 100 cable I ordered online, I don't know if it is cut too long or short, any info would be amazing if anyone has any.

Make sure you have clip no 25 on diagram.

Thanks Dox- I will give him a try.

Some nice pieces/photos. Do we know what happened to GTI engineering ? Absorbed by another company ? Anyone still about you can reach out to ?
Very exciting. It’s like looking for automotive treasure 😎.
Im not sure what happened to them- I know there was a very popular chap engineer their called Brian Rickets who later went onto open BR Motorsports ( Banbury)who sadly passed a number of years ago- I was chatting to a guy who purchased all his stock like nothelle heads- manifolds, camshafts- pistons- to this day all this stuff is still in a lock up . Also the other owner Richard lloyd heard passed away in a plane crash. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Lloyd_Racing history - Air crash. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Biggin_Hill_Cessna_Citation_crash
Would love to get a magazine article or advertisement with the corrado in it.
Yes I started looking at the history of car and went on the GTI Engineering page on FB- at first the expert on their was denying it was a demonstrator in till one of the sons of an ex mech their said he had been to a show in the exact car brand new- Crowthorne TRRL to put on the GTI Engineering Stand 1990- low and behold dug out a photo wearing the demonstrator plate. The expert has now confirmed it is indeed a demonstrator GTI car .
-
Hello everyone.
I found out my car was an actual demonstrator for GTI Engineering . Its a 1990 car .
Ive managed to find one picture with the famous GTI Engineering plate GT100 (GTI 00 ) it was used only on their demonstrator models .
If anyone has any magazine articles or even a GTI brochure with the car in I would be delighted if you could share.
You can see the previous registrations crossed off and that the car was owned by them for at least 6k miles.
The private plate itself is now on a 997 GT3 RS and sold 8 years ago for 35k - so that is off the cards. £15 show plates will do me ha)

Nice piece of Corrado history you have there. Looking forward to hearing more about it 🙂.
Thanks James,
Hope all is well.
Collecting it Friday so fingers crossed she gets home - .
The owner has done some useful work to recommission her- generally consisting of new tyres on all corner- internal and external fuel pump- accumulator and hel stainless swirlpot lines , new rad fan and fan switch sensors- warm up regulator refurbished by KTI Engineering., water pump, alloys refurbished.
The jobs I have planned
refurb gutter seals -
Paint bonnet, bumpers x2
Conti timing belt kit
Drive shaft volocity seals.
Rear exhaust muffler
ARB bushes
I knocked him off 2k off for that exact reasons mentioned above. That will get the car to a very good condition- will just change parts from thereon within when needed.
Cheers

Thanks for welcome back TD.
I m always looking at classifieds and the pull on this one was too much to resist re entering the world of scarce car parts !

yes the gauge panel have VW markings & part number but i couldnt figure if it was a corrado or a golf part - i actually got it off Zak the loom maker from here
thanks the help would be cracking. i have got the gauge fitting instructions off here in the wiki IIRC but im not quite sure how they wire in & where they fit to.
i will dig them out & take some pics to send you for comparison
ive still quite a hoard from the parts you gave me so let me know if you end up needing anything & i can take a look.
Thanks mate will do - my first job will to be refurb the roof gutter seals as the side d shaped rubbers have perished .
VR sounds amazing mate will have to meet up at Gilks this summer and show me the fruits of your labour.
Vince did my wire loom, but you will need a dual pole sender - a vdo unit m10 x 1 thread from memory- which oil pressure gauge do you have 0-10 bar or o-5 bar - 4 cylinder early tend to be 5 bar and later cars like vr have 10 bar,
One really nice little classic touch the car comes with is some rubber hybrid carpet votex blue car mats - never seen them before and in mint condition. I collecting

cracking spec on that find! not many of us out there with an X1 kit & nothelle's too
my old 16v was non ABS too but that had electric windows
oddly, looking at the pics, i have one of those centre console pods & gauges but i couldnt figure out how it fits - there are 2 locating kind of looking things at the bottom of it
any chance, when you have time, you could try to see how it fits for me pls? i would be very grateful
Nice one Goldfinger hope all is well.
The Kamei kit sold it to me for sure !
I fitted some gauges to my old g60 mate - I cant picture how I did it now but I will be taking the oil bar pressure gauge out at some point as its not functioning correct so will get some pictures. I know the two grommets (cover screws either side are the same as the B pillar grommets above seat belts. It might be mate that the late dash has different fixing holes chap perhaps that the screws house to. I cant remember the fixing legs at the bottom of mine- is your gauge panel original mate ?

2 hours ago, Cressa said:Welcome back mate. I did see that car for sale and thought, What a beauty. A very special car indeed. Congratulations on your purchase of it, and coming back on here.
There can't be anything you would change on it, surely.
Enjoy your ownership of it.
And what's the Cars name?
Thanks Cressa,
Hope all is well mate.
The car just needs some paint caused by garage knocks moving bits and bobs round the car.- stone chips as well. It has never had any paint so will do the bonnet, front and rear bumper - that's about it. Not going down that route again of a full restore- the car itself is absolutely solid - I even pulled out the fuel filler cap rubber seal and no build up of dirt whatsoever or rot - floor pan, sills, wings rot free and the subframes are still matt black- i might just do the bumper irons and brackets powder coated when bumpers off
No name has come to mind yet but im sure it will be called a .unt from time to time !

Where on earth did you find that - that is a true unicorn can only be a handful of those ever built
Hi Gerry ,
Hope all is well mate.
Ive only ever seen another white RE2000 corrado and I believe that car is dead .
This car was owned by a guy from Stockport way called Bowler Joe- been in his family all his life - one can only imagine he was a huge golf fan and asked GTI engineering to build his dream spec VW as the Corrado was the next big thing to own in the VW world- he certainly new his stuff, Bowler Joe sadly passed away some years back in his 80s and I purchased the car off his grandson .
What really makes it for me is the helios blue, X1 Kamei and the recaro , I had a chance to buy it and t was an opportunity I could absolutely not refuse .
Another huge bonus is that its is a none ABS car and also has manual windows but electric mirrors- work that one out.
Cheers.

I don't know why the early cars aren't as popular as the late TBH
Thanks Dox,
I can honestly say its shit off a shovel and what amazed me is how well the suspension travel is how it sucks up the bumps- the engine casing is blue which apparently is a GTI Engineering trade mark.
Crazy car to think someone in 1990 purchased it and spent a whopping 27k including the mods- would of thought they would of gone for a G60 but perhaps at the time only available in LHD. I can say its a better package then a G60 after owning both.
In todays money this car would of cost per Bank Of England Inflation calculator.
What would goods and services costing

Hello everyone Hope all is well.
Back in the Corrado game just could not say no to this Kamei body kitted RE200 GTI 170 BHP Engineering car. Truly nutty car that was purchased new from GTI Engineering with lots of added extras . Very rare colour to Helios blue with a Kamei X1 body kit- what a mental spec ! Car dealer stamp on code sticker is GTI Engineering
First registered 02.1990 - absolute no brainer with the historic tax only a few years away and have plenty of 16v parts shared with my Mk2 Golf. I use Peter James Insurance now - to add it onto my MK2 policy it only cost £55 and that includes rescue- now ladies and gents that is cheap motoring !

Does anyone own 2020 onwards audi S5 diesel - or any modern diesels - Im tempted to buy one and get rid of a 997 - are modern diesels just unreliable now because of the tech and blue crap.
Thanks
