  1. Was a bit annoyed this year, been a loyal customer with flux for about 8 years, came to renewal time and they upped my policy by about £80 and wouldn't budge so now with Hastings direct. Thats on my unmodified daily so not sure what they are like with modified cars.

Will be shopping around next year for the corrado though as I didn't like the amount of loopholes and smallprints they added to the policy, sound like the type of company you'd have to fight until your last breath to get a penny out of them

They don't like modded cars, and neither do 90% of the other companies who pay to be on market comparison sites. I was with Hastings for a couple of years and had to switch to Greenlight to cover my mods.

And don't get me started on the whole corrupt insurance system. Insurance, body shops, glass replacement, ambulance chasers..... they're all in bed with each other. It's just money for all rope to them. If it wasn't a legal requirement, I'm sure we'd take great pleasure in telling them to go F themselves.

  2. Im not as I'll be out of a job, lol. Finance has never been cheaper and people want the latest greatest so if they can get it they will. How many of these young folks have houses, probably very little so any disposable income goes to the car. I remember it was a total privilege to get a car when I was 17 but then there wasn't PCP etc around, now its a god given right it seems.

All our cars are bought and paid for (youngest car is 12 years old though) but I must admit Ive been tempted in the last couple of years by something brand new and shiney because of some of the deals.

Its never been cheaper to borrow money so its well within your means it would be rude not to, within reason of course. Just don't buy a diesel it seems lol.

Yeah and it's going to end in disaster again. Nothing was learned from mess of 2008, and wages are still stagnant because of it.

There is a big implosion coming. We're due a big war to clear out some of the over population, and I reckon Trump and that Koren odd ball f'ckwit are more than likely going to start it.

All those acid throwing morons and other worthless rats of society can go on the front line and get killed off hopefully.

Nature always finds a way to restore the balance.....and nature's way is to get the humans to turn on each other.

As for electric cars.......the silly money we pay for petrol now will be replaced with silly money charged for electricity. Electric cars won't be the cheap motoring people think it will be.

  3. What kind of temps. are you chaps seeing in the UK? I'm virtually frying here in Rome, temps pushing 50 effin degrees and 25/6 at nite..

It hasn't rained here for 3 fukkin months.

50 is what they charge for an ice cream over there too

Don't get into weather discussions with English people..... they think 30 is a heat wave and spend the rest of the year moaning about how grey and cold it is.....but never gets colder than 0 usually. That's not cold at all.

  4. That Avatar.....always cracked me up when ever I saw it

Sadly the good ol' days of the crazy "Angel Eyes" type threads, and the many japes and giggles we had, are long gone. I think everybody has gotten old and boring.....and all the old timers have moved on. I pop in occasionally to laugh about people selling snapped VR6 badges on ebay for £50

Walesy getting upset about people calling him Walsey, ChrisVR6Nos threatening to stab people, me wasting schitt loads of money and talking the hind legs off a donkey, President Jim trying to be all diplomatic, VR6 constantly taking the pee and modifying peoples usernames and avatars, Supercharged posting random weird pics.........thems were the days

Maybe we need a "Where are they now?" thread and hopefully some of the chaps from the golden era will drop by!

  5. I had that compensator valve replaced, and then it duly seized up again. What I used to do to get more life out of it, was periodically jack up, remove the counter spring, soak it in plus gas or something, and then whack the arm up with a hammer, pull it back down, rinse and repeat until it freed off. Worked for a while.

If the car is a keeper, it's worth upgrading to the OBD2 Golf ABS system as it does away with that stoooooooopid valve.

  6. Even if I had the skills to rebuild an engine, I'd still leave it to the pros. There would always be that nagging doubt in my mind that I hadn't done something quite right, or put a piston in back to front (yep, that is possible in the VR6!). And goes without saying, if you screw it up, there's zero recourse! You have to pay twice!

Anyway, the old girl looks in great shape! Are they Golf wheels?

  7. Lol, it may well be at least partially my right foots fault but I can't remember the MPG of mine ever getting above 30 before!

Yes the block has also been done, the price sounds high when I say it to myself out loud but I know the parts alone aren't cheap and it is a lot of work, I can't help feeling that if this all goes to plan It's actually a bit of a ...... Bargain?

£1600 is VERY cheap for a full VR6 rebuild, if indeed that's what it was. Fingers crossed your new found oomph, frugality and reduced smoke remains that way for years to come!

  8. Could definitely tell it was on KWs the way it was bouncing down the road!

I winced every time he ragged it into the limiter, and then holding it in 2nd/3rd at 6K+ between corners.....ffs.....there's no need for that....not a mint original example like that....knobber!

He always bangs on about 'stick shift' and 'rev matching' like he is some kind of driving god. I used to like him as he wasn't a typical American straight line hero, but I find him irritating now.

  9. For sure ..... do miss the sound of the VR mind .... but makes up for it in pace

And then some! The VR does have a lovely sound, but these modern 4 pot turbos make it feel incredibly lethargic by comparison, and the R32 too. I'd always take performance over noise!
