  1. My engines died and I need a replacement.

Ideally another KR, but would consider an ABF conversion if everything for a mk2 golf is included.

Must be localish to Bristol or happy to send on a pallet.

Contact with price/details on 07879 sixtyfour 25 sixtyfour or through here.

    Cheers

  2. Ultimately by running excessive stretch you are opening yourself to this sort of incident and looking at the rear wheels this guy is not running huge amounts of stretch:

    Whoops!

This had nothing to do with stretch, but incorrect speed rating.

so, what this has made me think about (apart from peoples temper on the interweb) is the width measurement of tyres, does the '195' in 195-50-15 refer to the tread width?

My old sebrings were 6.5J rims which is 165mm, clearly no relation to the tyre width???

I then fitted the same 195 tyres to 7J rims and was advised that they would 'control the sidewall better in cornering', which made sense, but is that BS?

6.5 is the measurement of the inner lips, the total wheel width is about an inch more so 195 on 7.5" is about right. 'J' BTW doesn't have anything to do with the width, it's the shape of the tyre bead.

It's all a bit grey to me too. Chaps in motorsport recommend matching the wheel width to tyre width, so 8J should have a 205 fitted. Sounds logical and sensible, but put a 205 onto a typical 8J rim and it's slightly stretched. And what is 205 on the VR6's 6.5J all about??!

My Edition 30 runs 7.5Jx18, but with 225 tyres. Odd.

See above - 8" will actuall be 9" on outside edge, so 225 tyre will be about right for flat/flush tyre fitment.

  3. Hi and welcome to the forum!

If you've managed to get as far as posting this thread, an advert shouldn't be much harder.

The main thing you might struggle with is posting photos, but if you get the basics of an advert together someone will help you with pics.

Pricing is a lot harder and with the description you've given it'll certainly need good photos to help work out a fair value. Where do you live? There's nearly always someone local happy to help!

    Cheers

  4. Only difference in fitting to a 16v is you need the VR cross member and VR clocks.

It's also worth upgrading at the same time to 5 stud, to give you more brake options, but not essential...

My old R32 was originally a G60 with 305mm ibiza cupra brembo's upfront and 280's rear.

  5. If Mark actually works on the car itself, then maybe it will work out of the box. The issues I've had were completely avoidable had he have done the wiring properly.

It got to the point where I actually got the wiring diagrams and rewired my lambda sensors, which were all wrong. Maybe it was lost in communication (wired it for a mk4 when mine is a mk5).

There were other issues too. He might be alright now mate!

I gave Vince a call, he wanted 4 grand to do the wiring and remap! :bonk:

  6. Any company you can suggest that can do this and will it pass the MOT emission test etc with this done...Its looks like instead of a GT might be best to stretch to a GTI MK5 instead PETROL.

All depends where in the world you are! Avon Tuning just outside of Bristol will crack open the DPF, strip the innards and replace so it visibly looks untouched. They assured me once remapped the emmissions are still well within MOT limits.

Having said that, unless you're exceeding 15k miles p/a, there's no way I'd consider a problematic diesel over a GTI!
