  1. I think it's if you're doing double the limit you loose your licence?

    EDIT-- or over 100mph..automatic ban..

  2. Carparks are dangerous places!

Nearly 30 yearss ago, I was sitting in my car in the middle of an (almost) empty supermarket carpark at some ungodly early hour of the morning. The only other vehicle was an enormous dumper truck, parked at 90 degrees to me about 20 feet away. The driver wanders past me & over to the truck. The truck starts up & driver throws it in reverse straight back into me! My car was pushed 10 feet sideways & my life flashed before my eyes as the moster started to roll over me. The driver must have felt some resistance so he stops & gets out.

He then utters the classic line: "Oh, I never saw you there!"

The car was totalled & all at

  3. I think I've got the article in an old "The Golf" or "PVW" magazine at my parents house. I'll have a look next time I'm over and dig it out. This is the car that made me want to get a Corrado.

Yep, it was in "The Golf" a few years back. It also started me on my quest for a Corrado :)

  4. I don't know what it is with corrado screens. Mine was done in 4 hours and a perfect job was done.

Unfortunately you went to a place that was incompetent and I reckon other cars they do are bollocks'd up jobs aswell.

I suspect you've put your finger on the problem - it took your fitter 4 hours (and mine 3 hours) to do a perfect job. Autoglass & the like want to spend an hour at most and so bodge & cut corners with the result that you wind up with a cr*p job. I just won't use them anymore after 2 major c*ckups on previous cars; I now use a trusted independant who actually takes pride in his work :)

Do they get paid by the job one wonders?

  5. My Mum bought a new MK3 Golf from them in '93 which has only done 20K, even today. 5 years ago she took it to Motorworld for an MOT & they tried to persuade her it needed £600 spending to get it through the MOT.

Luckily, she didn't fall for it & I got it MOT'd no problem somewhere else. It's never needed any of the stuff they claimed! Motorworld also lost a loyal customer as she flatly refuses to go there for anything now.

  6. i cant believe that either...what if the company secretary doesnt drive and doesnt even have a driving license..then what??

I can just see the job advert now: "Company Sec with no driving license required" 8)

  7. You could try your stealers as well as I don't know what the quality of GSF's radiators is like not having used 'em.

I've had a GSF rad in my Golf VR6 for the last 3 years & it's been fine. ISTR the stealers wanted £170 + VAT; GSF was £82 + VAT

  8. Just an idea, but it's worth checking that there isn't any play in the cable at the gearbox end which moves the big weighted arm forward & back.

It's difficult to describe, but if you get a mate to move the gearlever from 1st to 2nd and back again while you're looking at the top of the 'box you'll see what I mean. There's a bolt which goes though the cable end to the arm & that is where I found lots of play. Appropriate washers sorted it completely & it makes the whole gearchange much more positive.
