  1. Hello, Corrado Brake bleeding 1989 - 1995. (Also includes the clutch circuit) 2 man job particularly when flushing through the clutch circuit. Require 1 ltr of DOT 4 brake fluid. System is not designed for DOT 5. BRAKES: Applies to all UK models, 1989 – 1995 whether fitted with ABS, ABS/Traction control or just plain conventional. Just like any other VW of the era with standard brakes. ABS or not, they are all the same procedure. Assumes here that the pumping pedal and bleed collection bottle method is used. Auto bleeders etc, treat the Corrado as standard type brake circuit. Bleed sequence is: 1 - Rear right (offside) caliper 2 - Rear left (nearside) calliper 3 - Front right caliper 4 – Front left caliper Carefully pump the pedal with the bleed nipple open at each wheel and close caliper nipple on a brake pedal pressing action. Do this until the new fluid becomes visible in the collection jar. *** Don’t let the brake fluid reservoir level drop below the clutch fluid feed of the main reservoir, about half way down the side wall of the plastic reservoir otherwise that will introduce air into the clutch circuit. If you jack up the Corrado with the rear wheels off etc., as Chris VR6nos has said, you will need to depress the proportioning valve on the rear sub chassis nearside. Bleeding flow rate shouldn't be affected with rear wheels on the ground at full weight. CLUTCH: Definitely two people. With the main brake fluid reservoir full, connect a feed pipe to a collection bottle and open the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder on the top of the gearbox. In the cabin, grab hold of the clutch pedal (as it is sprung assisted to go up into the dash!) and gently push while holding the pedal. At the bottom of the stroke, close the slave cylinder nipple and pull up the clutch pedal back up to the top again. Open the slave cylinder nipple again and repeat 5 more times. Ensure the slave cylinder is fully closed and test the clutch pedal for firmness and operating the clutch. Finally, open up the bleed nipples on the brake and clutch master cylinders and let out a little fluid into a rag while observing that there are no ait bubbles. Finally check the main reservoir fluid level is at the mark near the top on the reservoir side wall, usually a solid triangle symbol. Bleeding now complete, check the pedals are operating with no lag or sponginess. Test drive and all should be OK. -------------------------- NB. The USA Bentley procedures, particularly the ABS brake fitted Corrado procedures do not apply to the UK models. ie. Forget the ignition on and all that with VAG1551 connected. That’s the Teves 02 system not the Teves O4 ABS system There will always be some old fluid left in the ABS pump and valve block. So, just refresh the brake fluid at a shorter intervals than the 2 year recommended. It will dilute this factor over time. Also, now the Corrado’s are drawing pensions, after 1 month from changing the fluid, check all flexible rubber hose pipework at the wheels and sub chassis. The hoses can rapidly deteriorate resulting in weeping leakage or bulges on the outer rubber walls. This more likely to happen if the Corrado is used infrequently or stored of periods like over the winter. The new fluid for some reason breaks down the inner pipe of the rubber brake hose which show up as a bulge or the outer hose having wet areas.
  2. Rule of using VAG-COM on 1989 - 1995 cars is quite simple. If it is a 16 pin diagnostics socket or the two - two pin sockets (black/white) which have a total of 4 wires attached, then the car is digitally linked and VAG-COM interfaces will work but in some cases the laptop comms port can make things flakey and "choke" the ECU into a hang-up. Clear with ignition on - off - on and choose a slower comms speed. The 2 ltr - 16v "8A0..." ECU's are the worst for this. If the two diagnostics sockets (Black/White) have either 1, 2 or 3 wires only attached, then the car is analogue and VAG-COM cannot interface with them. These cars use "blink" codes (grouped voltage pulses) in a primative way to throw out the faults out, one at a time. G60 with PG engine - limited analogue diagnostics on early cars, no ECU reset as such just down to tuning the CO and timing. G60 post August 92 1992 chassis - limited digital diagnostics, no ECU reset, just tuning CO and timing. (ie. just right at the end of production a few G60's went digital, ie. the last 10 months of Corrado G60 production (1993 model), chassis numbers 50PK000001 - 010000 with engine numbers PG089596 - 090169) 2E, digital diagnostics, ECU reset is battery off and reconnect after 2 minutes followed by a drive with the engine already fully warm of 10 minutes without the car left idling beforehand. During the first 10 minutes, at least once put the car into 4th gear at 30mph and press & hold the throttle at about midway for about 4 seconds minimum, otherwise just drive the car normally until the 10 minutes from ignition on after the battery disconnection at which point the ECU learning mode will lock out. That's the first part done, now.... The ECU needs to be harmonised using VAG-COM in Basic Settings mode by selecting basic settings, keying 001, pressing the throttle while stationary in neutral to 2,500rpm for 3 seconds. Allow to idle for 1 further minute and then check display field 4 is showing all 0's. Check the CO is below 0.5%. 2E ECU is now set up. Bottom line, all digital diagnostic Corrados are a pain to interrogate unless they have a VR6 engine fitted. Too many ECUs manufacturer's subcintracted by VAG and lots of comms protcol variances. Best to test with a borrowed VAG-COM to see what you get unless you're seeking a broader use of the product. G60 original question, yes probably fried something.
  3. Just remember one thing, it is normal to have the courtesy of informing a Club of intentions/proposals so that the agenda can be set up properly at the AGM. As you should know as a member of the VWCCGB, the AGM letter clearly laid out that in plain english of what was required. So far, nothing has been heard or written in respect of that request. Disrespect from individuals straight away in this thread. Not a good start is it! Kicking up dust here gets no one anywhere. Positive people get involved, show willing and stay involved, not walk away the first time some prat demonstrates his upbringing at you or because some part of a club is disagreeable. How do I know? Cos I've put up with some member's attitudes for the last 6 years on my email who have manners which begger belief. Paided my 15 quid, so you are now my personal servant. They are the minority fortunately. I don't see that politeness here yet from what are in quite a few cases - "ex" members. You know who you are, as you haven't renewed your memberships nor have you got a current membership card in the last four weeks. That is current as of this afternoon. As for the Royal Mail post, the current loss rate I have for my personal post from any company/individual is getting poorer by the day. 5 letters in the last 3 months lost, so, just think about whom you are kicking before you write. The membership secretary has done her best, and now cos for some indeterminate unknown reason she's blamed for it all. In some cases, course you won't get the AGM letter, you elected not to rejoin or resigned, others.. well too lazy to inform of a change of address. Membership is annual, not lifetime except in exceptional cases. I'm surprised at some of you for such inconsideration for a thankless UNPAID job that never goes away week in, week out, 52 weeks a year for this person. As regards the VWCCGB & CF, I take it that an association with the VW CCGB relinquishes responsibility and control to the Club in some way. After all, what is being proposed here makes the committee members liable. Would YOU take on liability without the control, not b***dy likely. So just think your proposal through a bit. Only do unto others what you are prepared to do to yourselves. Mature your ideas and scope the whole thing into something sensible. But remember this, are the dozen peeps here representing the other 4,200 in both memberships. I correspond with a totally different Club clientele other than the dozen here, most of whom probably wouldn’t hold the same views. Have they been taken into account? I guess not. From experience in several other Clubs, members have many different agendas for joining a Club etc., otherwise this thread would be bulging at the seams with different people’s discussion, wouldn’t it??? As for the factual contents on this thread, yeah, some is right but some is clearly “News of the World” imagination. It’s all been documented to members in the Sprinter editions 30 and 30b. Clearly there are some grown up individuals wanting to be kids again with hidden agendas or simply can’t own up to not being able to read written english. They know the facts better than most in some cases but are willing to distort them as a means to their own end. Clearly fanning the flames of others is just a means to wrecking the whole scene for the Corrado in the UK. Yes, it has been a slog over the past 2 years in sorting difficulties in the VWCCGB and there is still some to be finished off. Kicking those in the teeth who have worked on in the Club during a difficult time isn’t a way of achieving comradeship or a future. It just demonstrates total immaturity. When the members are informed about their Club at the AGM, then the comms issue as part of that will be self-evident. For those in this thread who are currently “ex” members, then the comms problem is on your doorstep for not rejoining in the majority of cases. You know what’s been going on through notes on this Forum and the eGroup. So how come you can’t make contact if you know/sense something is missing, post gone astray etc. I know that some committee members have done their level best and sorted it when they have knowledge of a point raised. So, those of you with mature vocabulary I hope will be thinking it all through, rejoining AND getting into the thick of it and putting in some personal free, willing help & support, not just at the AGM but for a year. Have you got what it takes? Then perhaps I can sit back and deal the cards for a change!
