  1. Around £50.00 - £75.00 I've read on other forums.
  2. Towed my VR6 with my Dad's Polo (1.6). about 4 miles. Thought it was hard work until we got home and he told me he'd had his foot on the brakes just in case we needed to stop...
  3. I'd be tempted to go with standard 15" perhaps, then you can replace them if you damaged one and the tyres are £36.00 each not £60.00 ?
  4. My mobile mechanic (dad) had a mess about with it yesterday and sprayed the starter motor lead with wd40 - started first time, so looks like a dodgy connection there causing it? I did notice the arcing on a previous VR6 I had and it seems a common thing? Could you not have the metal part of the leads coated somehow to stop it, assuming it's a problem?
  5. There's a black plastic bit/block with the plug leads stuck in it at the right of the block, assumed that was a "coil pack" ? (It's an L reg).
  6. My project has been taxed and tested and after sorting a few issues my dad's been joyriding it about "testing" he calls it. I went out for a run the other Saturday and it was ok for a but but then lost power and stopped. It restarted first time and I continued until I could turn around to head home, it cut out again a few miles later and took ages to restart. Did about another mile then it cut out and wouldn't restart at all. Towed it home with my dad's polo which was entertaining but thankfully only a few miles on quiet roads. Decided to treat it to a new battery as didn't trust the old one but it refused to start even then. Not done anything with it since due to working but had a look today, tried a spare lead and plug and it turns over but the spark is very very weak. Before I throw anymore money at it guessing, can anyone think of what it might be causing it? It was running ok before apart from being a bit "lumpy", ran like stink despite it though.
  7. My dad took it for an MOT today while I was at work. Failed on rear number plate light inoperative, looks like the wiring needs soldering he said. Both rear wheel bearings have excessive play? Front lights not working on switch but do work when ignition is on? Advisory on a rear brake pipe a bit corroded and that's all so better than I expected. Passed the emissions too, runs ok but it sounds like it's "missing" or something.
  8. Thanks for the replays. As regards driving - it's was a few years since my last VR6 but god does it go like stink. :-) It's not mint but it's not a wreck. I ripped out all the non VW wiring and resoldered and heatshrinked it all back togther, replaced the front lenses, fogs, new badges, new gearknob and gator, new plugs, oil change, original grill rather than the unbadged one etc. I've a spare set of standard alloys I was going to refurb and fit new tyres to as I like to know where and when my tyres came from as it were. New Bently manual, even have a new Ipod compat. stereo for it. Needs the door cards/membrane replacing then see what an MOT brings up. I'm working 8-7 and Saturdays so have no time to do anything with it and hate it sitting there unused. I would break it but that's far too much hassle even if more money. I only paid £1600.00 for it in the first place.
  9. I bought a VR6 as a non runner on here a while ago but should be working on my house project not cars... I don't have the time the do anything with it anymore with work etc. Given the current low prices should I sell as complete or try and find some time to break it. It's not taxed/tested but I sorted the non starting problem(s), can leave it two/three weeks and it's start first time now. I've replaced all the lights, changed the oil, replaced bits of trim, faulty blower motor etc.
  10. I've been away from a Corrado for a good few years after trading in my VR for a 1.6 Polo prior to a court visit... I've had the Polo and then a 1.6 Scirocco and now daily a 1.4 Polo (100 miles). I've been slowly fixing bits and bobs on the one I bought from here a while ago. Yesterday I came home to find my dad was washing it so I helped him and we gave it a quick clean up, windows, carpets etc. He said I should drive it back round to the garage. I'm making no excuses that it's wrong on many levels with no tax/test yet but I went up the road and back a few times just because I couldn't help myself.... all I came back thinking was fxxx me how did I keep my licence so long before and if it failed the mot next week on anything big I'd sell it and buy another one with a test as I want it back. :luvlove:
  11. Edited - it's 109 not 197 and I think it's knackered as it wouldn't start again after I'd been sorting some more of the wiring out so I'll have to try a new one.
  12. Sorted this now. :) Combination of battery, alarm wiring and one of the fusebox relays.
  13. It's RHD. I saw one of the units on Ebay and recognised the part number. It's fastened to the inner wing behind the driver's seat. My dad says he fitted a new battery today while I was at work and it turned over first time, all the bits and bobs worked. He then turned it off and it wouldn't start again. After a chat he said he'd moved the fusebox so I think one of the wires I'd twisted together has come back off. I got a gas soldering iron in the post today so will sort all the cut wires properly with heatshrink sleeving etc. at the weekend and see how it goes then.
  14. Being doing some work on the VR I just bought to try and sort out the issue with it not starting. I suspected the alarm (took the siren off the other night when it wouldn't stop going off and smashed it with a hammer  ). I've removed the alarm box and all the wiring I could indentify as belonging to it and temporarily fastened the cut wires together until I get a gas soldering iron as there's no power where it is. The dash lights come on ok but you just get a click when you turn the key. If you try the hazzards or an indicator the box below clicks like mad (video at bottom of post). One if the relays under the dash on the left was clicking but stopped (number 97 I think)? There's a few connectors I can't identify and a few loose connectors that don't seem to go anywhere in the back of the fuse box. Think this is for the stereo? This is on the ignition side of the car? Video of box: http://www.karman.demon.co.uk/Box.MPG Any pointers appreciated. :)
