  1. Had a similar problem with mine, turns out it was the pipe that connects to the oil cooler, might be worth checking around there?
  2. I had my headgasket done a few months back by a guy in stoke, I only paid £400 and that was including lifters, seals etc. Mine had already had recent timing chains mind. I would thouroughly recommend this guy as he really knows his VW's, and is very reasonably priced. Let me know if you want his number.
  3. Thanks for that, any idea how much a new control box is likely to be? Is it going to be a genuine vag part or do gsf do one?
  4. Have a problem with my vr, didn something silly the other day - topped up water in my expansion tank and then drove to work. When I got there I noticed steam coming from the bonnet and realised id left the cap off the expansion tank doh! anyway luckily the car wasnt overheating particularly, but a lot of water had evaporated. Went back to the car to fill it up with water/antifreeze later in the day and the fans had been running all day!? resulting in a flat battery. jump started the car and got home ok, but now the fan seems to be sticking on, I think its just on overrun when I turn the ignition off, pain in the ass as im having to disconnect the battery when I leave the car. Thinking this has got to be a switch problem? but after advice on which switch i need to replace?
  5. Recently had a wheel bearing done on my vr, and since it was done ive had a rubbing sound coming from that wheel. Took the wheel off to have a look and it appears that there is no space between the pads and disk hence rubbing. How do I adjust this? I would take it back to the garage, but its a bit far for me to go if its just a minor adjustment.
  6. Hi, My Corrado is currently running with a full Koni setup, however I find the ride quality a bit harsh unless you have it on the softer settings which kind of defeats the object. Which springs would improve the ride whilst allowing me to tighten up the shocks? Or do you think the ride could be down to worn bushes/mounts? Which is the best way to go??
  7. Booked the car in at a guy in Stoke who seems to come well regarded on this forum and the vr6 owners forum. Seems like a nice guy and quoted me £300 inc vat for the headgasket, and another £40 odd if it needs head skimming. Dont think this sounds too bad really, hes also gonna take a look at my leak - he doesnt think it sounds like the heater matrix. This corrado ownings fun isnt it?
  8. Hes saying aprox £1300 for headgasket, skim, and new heater matrix if required, £8-900 if not.
  9. It had timing chains done less than 25k ago, so should be sound. Out of interest how much were you quoted from stealth? - ive been trying to phone them but cant get an answer.
  10. Have phoned around a couple of places, dubsport have quoted 350+vat for a headgasket change, about another 50ish if it needs head reskimming. Garage its at now are quoting 8-900 inc vat for everything, hes told me that you could cut corners but he wouldnt recommend it. Thing is I know the garage its at now would do a top job, but dubsport is half the price. Anyone have experience of this companies work? I dont know what to do, want to spend as little as possible - but dont want a 'cut corners' job that could cost me more in the long run.
  11. Thought it sounded a lot, the quote is including head being reskimmed etc. Has anyone on here had there headgasket done? and how much have you paid? Help much appreciated.
  12. Its a VR. Anyone know anywhere around Shropshire or North Wales areas that could do a good job/price?
  13. Have just had my car in to garage, and have been told that my headgasket has gone. Been told I could be looking at upto £1300 for the head and a new heater matrix(may or may not be needed as i have a leak - possibly from headgasket going), does this sound expensive or is it just me? Mentioned to the guy about it possibly being the oil/heat exchanger before it went in, and he agreed that it could be a possibility - but after testing he is sure its the headgasket. Gutted.
  14. Cool, all is looking positive then. Only had the car a week, hardly driven it cos i was concerned - will still get it checked out though and maybe replace the oil/heat exchange - probably worth doing anyhow. :)
  15. sorry, couldnt figure out how to get picture up - something to do with the size, trying again - here goes.....
