    Bloody expensive but plausable.

    I like the idea of getting some Merc rims to make my car a little different, all the usual suspects have been done a million times before.

    But it may not be worth the hassle in the end.

  2. Hi

    I'm looking at getting some Merc rims to fit on my 4x100 G60 but have been unable to find adaptors for the comversion.

    Any ideas where I can find them?

    Alternatively, I'm a CNC turner/miller so could manufacture my own. I have access to HE30 Aluminium billets but am worried this may not be strong enough to mount the wheels, does anyone know exactly what the material spec for these adaptors are? And more importantly where can I buy the bolts for mounting the adaptors?

    Lots of questions and not very interesting ones I know, but your help is appreciated.

  3. i agree with the multi-fitment holes, not a big fan of them really.

    But they are very similar in design to the BBS wheels which prove to be so popular on C's and I love the slight dish to the wheels. (but that may be only available with the larger sizes)

    I hate choosing rims, always want something a little different from the norm but get it wrong and your labelled a chav for life. :(

    Never saw that nut until you mentioned it, you probably saved me from busting the washer bottle.

    Managed to replace all my washer bottle pipework and fit new jets to my aero wipers. Not the most attractive mod I've ever done but they work great and will pass my MOT on Tuesday. Just hope the rest goes through easily for a change.

    Didn't realise they were Sonar lights but having a closer look revealed their name on the front. I'll steer clear of them then.

    Ideally I'd like a new set of lights for my G60 that have excellent light output and good beam pattern. Not really interested in the halo bit. My lights are looking a little tired now with all the stone chips and fading of the reflector. Might have to find some new originals.

    Sorry I didn't reply earlier. I didn't get any notifications of your replies and forgot about the topic. Probably something I did wrong.

    I did get some pictures of the hole but after speaking to a friend who works for the council my chances are not good.

    At the end of the day it's only a kerbed wheel, it's still true and straight.

    I was livid when it occured but can't really fault the council as it happened the morning after we had a huge rainfall which created the hole and the road was completely under water albeit only 2 inches. It was lucky it wasn't dry as I would have been driving much faster and some real damage could have happened.

    I've calmed down now, might have to get them refurbed in the summer and maybe look for some winter rims.

    How to Install the LCD Films and Filters

    First, the cluster must be removed from the car. The plastic cover is removed by

    removing the 2 screws on either side. The LCD housing is held on by screws at

    the back of the circuit board so the board must be removed to access the screws

    from behind. The board is held on by 3 screws at the front and also the harness

    clip. Follow the instructions on how to remove the board here,

    board and get the LCD housings out.

    Once you have removed the LCD housing, you need to remove the LCD glass to

    apply the tinted polarizing film to the front of the glass. Carefully peel off the

    factory film that is presently in front of the glass. Stick the new film in place. It has

    a self-adhesive side, and a non adhesive side. Both sides are covered with a

    clear plastic film which can be removed.

    The red film replaces the green film. Use 1 or 2 red films depending how dark

    you want the red to appear. You may need to trim the red film to fit them in. The

    white film stays behind the red film.

    The order is: tinted film (on the front of the LCD glass) ???? LCD glass ???? red film

    (one or two depending how dark you want the red to be) ???? white opaque film.

    LCD screen trouble shooting

    Pay close attention to the foam pieces as their orientation is very important.

    Label them ie. Top or bottom piece if you need to and use arrows to point which

    side faces the glass etc. If the glass and foam pieces are put back the wrong way

    or your LCD might not power up or the numbers will appear upside down. If this

    happens, you need to take everything apart again to flip it in the right direction.

  9. Hi Paul

    The dials themselves are very easy to fit. I had a lot of problems getting the alloy surrounds to fit nicely, it's a bit awkward to glue them in without making a mess everywhere.

    My one piece of advice to anyone fitting these dials is not to remove the original dial face for the fuel/water temp gauge. Just put the new dial over this one, the others are okay to remove. The reason for this is the original fuel/water temp dial actually holds the needles in position with 2 very small holes and the gauges function much better leaving this dial face in place.

    The wiring is very easy. The quality is excellent and the first time you turn them on in the dark it's fantastic. I have dimmed them down a lot as they are so bright they light up your face while driving.

    I'll see if I can get a picture done soon but have so many other jobs to do this weekend, mainly a new wiper mech after the linkage broke. (this time of year is no fun without wipers)

    Finally got around to fitting my DDI dials and they are really sweet

    I've not hard wired anything in yet but have tried them out to see what they look like and they look just as good as I had hoped.

    I've done the reverse red LCD screen thing as well but find it difficult to see the numbers in daylight (which is normal apparently). Has anyone found a way to wire the LCD into the ignition so it is always on when your driving? It's obvious on how to have the whole lot (dials and LCD) lit with ignition but I only want the LCD to be on all the time if it's possible.

    I've done a search about this and it came up a couple of times but I didn't find any real clues on how to wire up the LCD though.

    Yes it is mate.

    Thinking about it, the original place was just below the spoiler wasn't it? :roll:

    Looks like I'll have to try and conatct Hella for a replacement as there is no VW part number on the lens.

    I need to replace my number plate lights as they are broken but don't know what car they are from.

    I have a non-standard rear bumper so am not sure if the lights came from the Corrado or not.

    The lights have HELLA TL34 SAE L82 written on them.

    I know it's not much but just wondered if someone could check the number on their C to see if it's an original Corrado item.

    P.S. If anyone has a Golf MKII lying around could you check that please as well because my front indicators were from a MKII and so logic suggests they might be consistant.

  13. Bill he means the steering lock not the bit you stick the key in (which incidently is worth chaging at the same time altho the old one can be drilled out easily as is the ignition switch for the newer black polo 6N part...)

     

    The numbers posted are correct as lonbg as the car is manual transmission - the 357 part is for non adjustable steering column and the 535 part is for the adjustable...

    So seeing as I have an adjustable steering collumn then the 357 part will be no good.

    I've already changed the lock barrel and done the rest of the locks to match (thanks to the search and Wiki)

    I've also got the 6N switch and 2 new sheer bolts waiting to go on, just saw some cheap new steering locks on fleabay and thought I'd do them both in one go.

    Thanks for the clarification and help from you all. Much more reliable than my local stealers when it comes to part numbers.

    I'll have to look out for one of these etka cd things as it might prove to be useful.

    I've been told a steering collumn lock with part number (357 905 851D)will fit my G60.

    But I just took off the shroud to have a look and the part number I got was 535 905 851.

    Can any of you part number guru's please check to see if the top one will be okay.

  15. This happened to me.

    I used a broken hacksaw blade and cut a slot on one side of the valve cap. (Against the grain of the thread)

    Then I inserted a large screwdriver and twisted. This released the cap enough to be unscrewed properly and then throw the bugger out.

    I always use grease when putting alloy caps on steel valves now so it doesn't happen again.
