The green LED should light as soon as you plug the interface into the car. If it doesn't, try another car (any recent-ish car will do), and if it still doesn't work it's the interface that's at fault, so send it back to ebay man! The ECU is under the splash shield on the passenger hand side of the car in the scuttle area.

I note that Andy16v's MFA is reading 29+ mpg... Not so bad, really...

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW/CA ... 4180639389 I note you're flogging it on before your scam is revealed.. Nice one. Now, anyone in Guildford wanna check this car out in the next two days? Hell it's getting to the point where we'll all chip in for an RAC inspection just so we KNOW what it is!
-
I wanna know what he's telling the prospective buyers. Anyway, in November the guy said "I'm in no hurry to sell, I've got a year", so he's not even serious about *that*!
-
"just hitting the red" means there's probably 3-4 gallons left in the tank. Which means 300 miles / 12 gallons is about 25mpg. Still not great, but can be explained by doing lots of short journeys or hooning it about at full throttle all the time..

The light comes back on when you turn the ignition switch to the "start" position, temporarily, so obviously the power to the ABS controller is momentarily cut to allow as much current as possible to be dedicated to the starter.

Actually no, they don't. They can decline to sell it to you at all, or offer it to you at the higher price - you can always refuse... But most places wouldn't do that, simply because of the bad feeling it generates.

 can you tell we're sceptical???

standard 0-60 times... mines weird but good!

And you drive a ..... ?

Can we have a "auto insert the how-to-persuade-the-insurance-company-to-pay-a-reasonable-amount FAQ" button for the forum please mods?

Personally I don't want the exhaust to go "rasp" when I'm driving. I'd rather hear that gorgeous and subtle V6 induction rumble...

Miltek "quieter than the OE" - only when the OE one has holes in it mate! :-P

It's very simple: ask the guy who sold you the car where he put the charger. Or the nitrous kit. ;)
-
Don't dismiss the possibility of coil pack/leads/plug problems though. The VR at idle is barely running (emission control, eh?), and it only takes one total misfire for it to die sometimes (particularly if you're holding it on the clutch or something).

The damper pot being the small plastic square thing that makes a shag load of hissing noise? My Schrick-equipped VR still has it...

Full exhaust system from VW would be 300+VAT centre+rear, 80+VAT front section, 380+VAT catalyst, 300+VAT downpipes, which is I believe around £1245... But I'll watch the video clip before I make any more comments.. ;)

Have a look through the previous topics listed above, there's LOTS of hints about things to look out for in those. Air leaks, ISV, sensors, the works. ISV is about £140.
-
You haven't changed the ISV? Much cheaper than a MAF...
-
He said it was doing 1100rpm when *warm*! Perhaps I've just got used to the VR's lethargic 650 rpm tickover...
-
The lack of a gear change time is simply explained - the speedo needle is pretty slow to respond on these cars. The 0-10 is probably the biggest impact on the 0-60 time too, as bcstudent mentioned. But we've banged on about this car previously. We've seen rolling road print-outs that show that this freak 2.0 16v produces a nearly flat torque curve from 2500rpm all the way up to the redline. How many standard 16vs do that? No matter how much tweakage you put in, you can't compensate for the poor low rev torque on these cars without a blower... Anyway, we never got to the bottom of it.
-
1100 rpm sounds a little high, imho..?
-
Bah...what do they know?! About as much as me, mostly....
-
Interesting. Normally people tell me to shut up.
