Can you adjust the alignment of the rear wheels. Just curious more than anything else :)

Actually, you can change the alignment and camber of the rear wheels - but is requires a shim kit from VW to do it.

Fits between the trailing arm and the stub axle in case you're wondering.

I had both my 16V and VR6 adjusted by a four wheel alignment specialist. The back's were out as well as the front and they adjusted all four. The 16V however one of the rears would not adjust exactly but was within it's tolerance. So I would say that they must be adjustable??

Hi

As far as I'm aware four wheel alignment involves adjusting the fronts in line with the rears.

The rears have no adjustment as its a fixed axle.

The fronts are adjustable for toe in and camber buts thats it. :)

Yeah I think thats right- I had a camber issue with a rear wheel- Garage said its either a bent rear stub axle or a bent rear beam- theres nothing adjustable on a VR setup :(

Bent rear stub axle, possibly....bent torsion beam/swing arms, unlikely unless it's been in a major accident.

As already mentioned, you *can* adjust toe and camber at the back by shimming the stub axle. You can also adjust castor at the front and rear with special top mounts.

There's no such thing as "can't do....."

The rear axle is adjustable to a certain extent - there is small amount of sideways adjustment in the 2 main axle mountings.

Mine was recently adjusted while the car was undergoing a 4-wheel alignment
