chip & pully

Recommended Posts

im in the process off fitting a smaller pulley (70mm) i thought i needed to get a smaller belt but after a call to my local specialist (tsr) he assures me the standard belt is fine the tensioner will take up all the slack is this right ?

also when i removed the standard pulley it has a cover on the back of it the new one doesnt leaving a hole behind does this matter

Not sure about tensioner (i fitted a smaller belt but went to a 68mm pulley) but as far as i'm aware all after market pulleys don't have the cover on the back.

Hi

I’ve been reading the e-mail group posts and they were saying you can use the tensioner but a shorter belt seems to be a better solution, they reckon there is less slip with the shorter belt. Ask Darren or Dubcharger they should be able to give a clear answer.

How is the70mm pulley I’ve always heard people going for the 68 or the 65 pulley?

If your going for a smaller pulley ie you want more performance, you will be better off going for the 68mm. This will let you rev up to 6500 safely although you wont benefit from going much higher than 6200 with a cam.

Make sure you get a chip matched to the pulley, you dont want to put a smaller pulley on by itself.

I prefer going for the shorter belt since it ensures good tension and its always good to use a nice new belt, those standard ones are probably well past they're sell-by date (depending on when you've changed it)

this is from the e-mail group.

I have managed to find an original VAG part number for the 21mm shorter "Poly V-belt", "Mono belt", "Fan belt" or whatever you like to call it.

I would recommend fitment of this belt with a 68mm (smaller) 'charger pulley.

Part No : 078 903 137 AN (1637mm long)

Available either from your local stealership or from http://www.gsfcarparts.com - £14.10 inc vat.
