chuck 0 Posted June 9, 2003 My starter motor sometimes won't work. Symptoms Only when hot (sometimes) Will whirr, but not engage (does that mean ignition switch is OK?) Leave it for 10-15 mins and it will engage. I've read that it will do that when overloaded and very hot. Does this mean that its slowly getting weak, and is more affected by the engine heat? Any way to rebuild one, or how much for a new one? not really a problem right now (just annoying, cuz it will sart soon), but just trying to be proactive. thanks
leew 0 Posted June 10, 2003 I bought a secondhand starter by mistake...it turns out it was the ignition switch. The symptoms were different to yours, mine didn't even whirr. If you want the starter motor you can have it for what I paid. I've tested it on the bench and it works fine.
Rossco 0 Posted June 10, 2003 mine was the same, sometimes it wouldnt start usually when hot. I cleaned all the earths arond it and this was ok for a while but it happened again so i went to go clean up the main power feed into the starter and it came away in the ratchet it was well rusty. so i forked out for a brand new beast(hurt the wallet large) but it starts sweet as now

(hey, now that I have most other things fixed, I don't want to be bored with nothing to do this weekend ) If it still does the same, I might just PM you leew.
