94 "race spec" auto tranny

So this dude online over on Myspace brought this up. I have never heard of such a thing but before I ripped into him I thought I would ask you chaps. Is he full of shit or no?

Surely he's having a laugh.

 

If nothing else an auto 'box loses a good 5% of power before it does anything, let alone the glacial gear changes.

 

Plus they can't really take much torque before you rip them apart.

that'll be why VW can only fit an auto to the toureg V10 TDi.........cos they can't get a manual box to take the torque :wink:

Yup, have to concur. Auto boxes are known for handling huge torque on big trucks and the like. Manual boxes don't have the guts.

They aren't efficient, tho..
